Will & Grace is a Emmy award winning sitcom that aired between 1998-2006. The show takes place in New York City and focuses on Will Truman, a gay lawyer and his best friend Grace Adler, a straight Jewish girl who runs her own interior design firm.
That show sounds boring, why is it so good I hear you ask. The casting directors hired two perfect actors to play Will & Grace. Eric McCormack who plays Will isn't too gay like someone else in the show, so it makes it seem plausible that Grace thought he was straight.
Debra Messing who plays Grace is just so bubbly and eccentric that you can't help but love her. Most importantly though it's the chemistry between Will & Grace that pulls you in, I myself always thought that they'd get together in the end.
The show doesn't just focus around these two characters though, two of the best comic actors on American television were hired to play the sidekicks to Will & Grace. Jack McFarland is a very very gay eccentric struggling actor, who has been friends with Will for a long time.
Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally who played Grace's best friend
Karen provided us with the most laughs in the show. The writers were fantastic at giving these two characters one liner that will just having you rolling about in your seat laughing.
The show was always controversial as I don't think there had been another show that used homosexuality as one of its lead themes at that time. The show was also one of the first to air a gay kiss, and openly stereotyped gay men as people who loved to shop, wore tight clothing and were all together perfect, and they were criticized for this however I don't think this offended anyone really as the show was very nicely done, and most importantly it was a hilarious sitcom.
The show featured a lot of famous celebrities from Debbie Reynolds as Bobbi Adler, Grace's mother. The late Sydney Pollack played Will's dad. Harry Connick Jnr played Grace's love interest as did Woody Harrelson. Other guest stars include Blythe Danner, Minnie Driver, Genna Davies, Rosie O'Donnell, Taye Diggs and John Cleese.
Other guest stars include Jeff Goldblum, Alec Baldwin, Cher, Gene Wilder, Madonna, Kevin Bacon, Glenn Close, Julian McMahon, Sharon Osbourne, Dylan McDermott, Brandon Routh, Matt Damon, Demi Moore, Ellen DeGeneres, Michael Douglas, Victor Garber, Seth Green, Britney Spears, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, James Earl Jones, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Katie Couric and Sandra Bernhard.
As you can tell that the show was loved by a lot of the stars in the UK and the USA, and that is only a handful of the famous celebs that featured in Will & Grace.
Some of the best episodes include the likes of Kevin Bacon playing himself, Jack is stalking him or something, and Will intervenes but ends up doing that Footloose dance thing at the end. Brilliant! Matt Damon's episode is also great, he plays a 'straight' choir boy, who's pretending to be gay. He and Jack have a sing off and end up fighting.
Jack has always had an obsession with Cher, so who did they hire to sit in a restaurant in one episode, you got it Cher, this is really funny episode as Jack doesn't believe it's Cher because she can't sing as well as him. Grace's main love interests played by Woody Harrelson and Harry Connick Jnr are brilliant, especially the latter. They really managed to fit in with the show.
The show faced a fair amount of criticism when it first came out just like Ellen did, because of having a limited view of the gay community and for reinforcing stereotypes. Despite this the show ran for 8 years, until it's finale in 2006.
The best episodes in my opinion are of course the Pilot episode. You really have to watch this episode to really get the feel of the show. In the season two episode Acting Out, Will & Jack are outraged that NBC didn't air the gay kiss that they were promised. So in true Will & Jack fashion they go down to the studios and give NBC their own kiss on live TV.
In season two another great episode is 'There but for a grace of grace', in this episode they visit and old college professor who really inspired them, to find out that he and his straight best friend are just like Will & Grace, but 40 years older.
In season 3 we get to see what Will & Grace were like at Columbia. This episode is great as it is so cheesily done.
In season 4, Matt Damon co stars as a chorus singer who pretends to be gay. This episode is great as you get to see Matt Damon as you've never seen him before.
In season 5, the episode where you first meet Dr Leo Markus is a great episode.
In season 8, the show airs it's first live episode where they try and find out why Karen never invited them to her party.
Finally the finale is one of the best finale's ever in my opinion, the show sorta lost it in the last few seasons but this made up for it. Perfection, especially when they all get older and Karen & Jack performing that song together. Brilliant.
This show was one of my greatest childhood memories. I loved watching this on Thursday nights along with Friends and will never forget the laughter and tears it gave everyone. Each episode was witty and really made you laugh. If you haven't seen it I wouldn't recommend watching it now.
I record this every morning for my boyfriend so he can watch it before he goes to work, I don't mind watching it but it's certainlty not my favourite show on tv

I ADORE Karen! "I think you're missing the silver lining here. When you're old and in diapers, a gay son will know how to keep you away from chiffon and backlighting." - She is an idol! Great review for anyone who hasn't ever watched it! X

I liked it.... for a bit. It should've been called "Karen & Jack", I reckon. Those first few seasons though, you're right - they were great fun!
Advantages: Great, funny characters Disadvantages: One-liners might get on your nerves
