I work for a construction company that deals with a lot of work within the social housing and private housing sectors. With my experience within the industry I know alot of people who work for other construction companies, and Wilson Connolly are no exception. I know two employees for this company one is a contracts manager and the other is a buyer based at their Welwyn Garden City office. The company used to be known as Wilcon Homes, but had to change it's name about to 2 years ago to what it is now because the finish and quality of homes they built was very poor. Many spec house builders build to a very low standard and just meet the CDM regulations and Quality assured Regs as well.

The two chaps that i know are good workers but they say that they are told how to operate and cost cut to ensure profits are made and the minimum standard is meet as well. About two years ago just before they changed their name, I think watch dog bought a progamme out on the top 4 bad house builders and in Wilson Connolly's case they were critised for their groundwork side of things. I.E. Paving to drive ways and roads, bad sewage drainage systems, and also the leveling of foundations was terrible in some cases.

At the end of the day houses today are very expensive and when buying a new home the last thing the contractor wants is to go back and do maintaince on properties that are basically brand new. For instance on an average house that is sold for perhaps £150,000 then that will only cost the contractor between £75,000 - £90,000 to build depending on the cost of land and finishes to the dwelling. so if a little bit extra was spent on just making sure that everything was correct then you would get an excellant repretation.

I think in Wilson Connoly's situation from what I have heard is that the quality of Contractors site representives (Site Agent) and Sub Contractors carrying out the works all depends on the quality of the finished product.

PLEASE BE ADVISED HOUSE BUILDERS NORMALLY BUILD TO A LOW SPEC.

The only contractors who dont do low specs and build on quality are the ones where the property is worth in excess of £350,000.

I think Wilson Connolly's attitude and quality of the way they build to will change because in the last six months they have been bought out by Taylor Woodrow, who are a very respectable builder who pride themselves on quality.
