Windows XP

Advantages: Tried + tested
Disadvantages: Windows Vista soon?

Lets face it - 90% of PC users use a Microsoft OS (operating system). The vast majority of those will be using XP. So you're not exactly going to be alone if you do decide to buy this. So, is it a good idea to go with the masses? Yes. Unless you are really techy and know software and hardware as if it were your job. Then you might plump for Linux or something similar. XP was released ages ago - about 2000 if memory serves correctly. As someone who started out on DOS, moved to windows 3.x, then Windows 98 and then XP (via Millenium for about 1 month ;) ) then I've had a history with OS's. XP is by far the most reliable - providing you do things properly then there is generally no problem. If you are completely just after something that you are not going to fiddle with then - no problems. If you are likely to uninstall ...

Review of Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2 Complete package

Experience Windows XP!

Advantages: Many features, reliable, OEM version is priced well.
Disadvantages: Vista is out, DX10 not supported (not currently an issue)

Windows XP is the most commonly used version of Microsofts popular Windows operating system or OS. It is feature packed and has low requirements so it will run on most PCs. The Look Microsoft has really jazzed Windows XP up compared to the previous dull grey looks of Windows 2000. As soon as you boot into the Windows interface you will be greeted with a friendly blue Welcome screen with the colourful new Windows logo. To begin you simply click your username, which will be displayed along with a little picture of your choice, you can pick from a car, frog to a cute dog or add your own picture if you prefer. Once you have entered your password and clicked the green enter button you will be taken to the new Windows Desktop. Here the new look is also in full effect as we get a new blue Taskbar with a bright green Start button, along ...

Review of Windows XP Home Edition Upgrade with Service Pack 2

Windows - XP, A life.

Advantages: Slighty more secure, everything is made to work on it
Disadvantages: Its windows, unstable.

Firstly, and to avoid any confusion I will explain in brief terms what a service pack is and why it is necessary. Whether it is down to bad testing, or a very limited time, Microsoft seem to have always had the problem of bringing out software before it was due. Example of this can be seen everywhere, and not just with the Operating Systems, in software as well, they always seem to leave programs half finished and add little bits and bobs back into them whenever the mood takes them. It is with this in mind that we see the complete necessity for service packs, they are basically updates en mass. Unless I am very much mistaken SP 2 was designed mainly to combat some security issues that had been found with the previous version of XP. A problem arose with many people when they updated thier exsisting XP with this new service pack ...
