I bought these playing cards a few weeks ago when I was in Nottingham for something to prevent my boredom on the train. When I first got on the train going I was rather bored and wanted some cards to play. As the old business man sitting next to me didn't seem to impressed with my singing voice to try and lighten the mood up I began to stop. It was 8:15 am though. On the way back to the station after an eventful day in Nottingham I thought to make the train journey less boring I would go on the hunt for some playing cards in the W H Smith shop at the station. Any pack of cards would of done and the only ones they had were The Simpsons so I thought they would have to do. I was impressed with my findings because I have been a fan of The Simpsons for some time now. So as I got onto the train I was hoping to find more than just my friend and me to play but everyone seemed to stay well away from us. Their loss!!!

When I opened the pack

The cards come in a cardboard box and inside that came the cards in a plastic wrap. I guess this isn't good if you want to save the environment. As the cards are The Simpsons I wanted to look through them to see the characters that I knew. Ironically the jokers in the pack are Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob. The cards are just like any normal pack of playing cards with 52 all together not including the jokers. On each card there is a different character. However some of the characters aren't that clear as they face is outlined in grey. Some of the characters include, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Principle Skinner and many more. The characters appear on different cards and not just the same suit or number. This is good because more characters can be included in the cards.

What games can you play?

With the cards you can play a number of games which is good because you won't get bored of playing the same game. A classic game to play of mine is SNAP! With a normal pack of cards you can just play this game because of the numbers or suits or even the colours. With these cards you can snap with all of those aspects and you can even play them with the characters. I love playing snap its such an intense game and I take it so seriously I am definitely a sore loser and tend to throw the cards everywhere if I lose.
Another favourite game is chase the ace. For any of you that don't know how to play this game its simple, take out one of the aces and deal all the cards out equally make sure you give them a good shuffle before you do this! Once all the cards are dealt look through the ones you have and if you have that match like two 7's then take those out. Do this till you have none left, you should have a lot left if your playing in a large group. Then go around the group clock wise and pick one card. If you find a match put it in the pile with the other cards. The idea of the game is anybody that is left with the ace loses. This is a great game to play with family and friends.
Another game that you can play by yourself is solitaire it's a classic card game that I first started playing on the computer. I have yet to play this game with these cards yet but I am sure it will just be as good with The Simpsons cards. However it maybe impossible to complete as you have deal the cards out yourself.
You can also practice your magic skills with these cards like guess what card it is. I try this all the time and always get it wrong I don't think I will be turning into the new Derren Brown any time soon! So it's a good job I have these cards to practice!

General Information

The packaging is cardboard which after taking them with me on a few days out isn't very durable so after a few months I think the good old cello-tape will be needed to keep the box together. On the box is a bright, eye-catching picture of the popular Simpson characters. This would appeal to any child, adult or Simpsons fan when it is on a shelf in a shop. The size of the cards are just like any normal deck of cards. This is good because they are easy to take away with you to keep the whole family entertained. They are also a great size to fit in your pocket. The numbers on the cards are big enough to see just incase any member of the family forgets their glasses.
I bought the cards for £3 I believe this is good considering it was from a train station where they raise the price just to try and make money. I am sure that if you shop around then you can find them much cheaper. I believe it is a considerable price to pay if your a big Simpsons fan.

Would I recommend?

I would recommend these cards for anybody who is planning to go away over the summer as the are small and can keep the family entertained for hours as lots of different sorts of games can be played with them. I would recommend these to anybody who wanted to stop the boredom of long car journeys.
