I found it very interesting to read about the systems implemented by welch, such as the 20,70,10 system. In this book welch answers the most frequent questions that he asked by aspiring managers. He explains how he did things, giving both positive and negative sides and to be fair he criticises himself as well.
I found it very interesting to read about the systems implemented by welch, such as the 20,70,10 system. This is a system in which the workforce of a company is divided into the top 20 percent, the middle 70 and the bottom 10. The top 20 are showered with praise and rewards and the bottom should be removed. Those in the middle 70 need to improve themselves and make it in the top 20. This is a system that motivates all employees to do better and improves the workforce as a whole.
Welches opinion on candor was also an eye opener for me. Welch belives strongly that candor is needed to be a successful company and that everybody should say what they think. I found this approach very refreshing and was interested to read how it was implemented and how it became successful.
I would recommend this book to anybody with aspiriations of making it to the top, especially students, as i feel it gives a real insight into what business in the real world is and not just what is in textbooks. This is a totally honest and informative text and i learnt so much from it.

Review of Winning: The Ultimate Business How-To Book - Jack Welch
Advantages: Very easy to read and understand, not complicated terminology. Disadvantages: I would have liked him to expand more on Six Sigma
This is the only business book I have read so far and no doubt it will be the only one.
Divided into 5 section:
1. Underneath it all
2. Your company
3. Your competition
4. Your career
5. Tying up loose ends
it is extremely easy to read and understand. It contains Welch's basic philosophy and principles, talks about business structure and process. It addresses facing difficult situations, making unpopular decisions but still achieving the best ... ...everything from every angle and always considering what is the best for your business in long run. His open, honest, human, down to earth approach is refreshing. You can pick up the book and start at any part that is relevant for you. If you are like me and hate business books but believe in straight talking do yourself a favour and read just this one. I love this book. ...

Manufacturer's product description
This is the ultimate business how-to book, by the icon of American business and one of the world's most revered and respected leaders, Jack Welch, former CEO of General Electric. "Winning" explores the changes of recent times and the new economic realities, and more than that, it identifies the central, immutable principals of doing business right and doing it well. ""Winning" is a book for the people in business who sweat, get their nails dirty, hire, fire, make hard decisions, and pay the price when those decisions are wrong," said Welch. "I see this book as a handbook for people in the trenches, turning their companies and the economy around, not just today, but for years to come. I think it will be useful for people just starting their careers or their own businesses to seasoned managers running multi-billion dollar enterprises. I've learned an enormous amount about what works and what doesn't work throughout my career, and I'm very excited about sharing it in "Winning"." Welch will teach people how to win in business by distilling his experience in three critical areas: working within an organization, dealing with competitors, and handling matters of life and career. Critical to Welch's writing such an accessible, useful guide is his unique collaboration with his wife, Suzy, the former editor of the "Harvard Business Review", who brings expertise in management, writing talent, and a woman's sensibility to articulating the components of Welch's success.
