If you have ever read any books by Dean Koontz you’ll already know just how weird this guy’s imagination is, if not, then you’re in for a journey into a dark and twisted landscape that is the sole preserve of chiller-thriller writers.
Winter Moon tells the story of a policeman (Jake) and his family who live in Los Angeles. After Jake is involved in an horrific gun fight whilst out on patrol, he and his family face the long haul back to financial and emotional security. Meanwhile Eduardo, the father of Jake’s old partner Tommy (who was killed in another gun fight), is facing a fight all of his own, one that is infinitely weirder than anything Jake could encounter on the streets of LA, and one that will prove to be a fight to the death.
This spells a brief period of good luck for Jake and his family, as after Eduardo’s death, they get to inherit a fabulous ranch in Montana and decide to move there to get away from the dangers of life in LA. Little do they know, just how dangerous life can be in Montana.
And so starts a frightening tale of terror and isolation, but also of courage and bravery.
In some ways this book is typical of a lot of American authors, in the way they write their characters (no concept of the rest of the world), and you can almost hear ‘America the brave’ in the background. But, if you can get over that, it is a tense, action packed story that does get you to care about the main characters and end up routing for them.
In all, if you enjoy thriller / sci-fi books, then you’ll enjoy this book and hopefully go on to read more of Dean Koontz’s work.

Excellent op. I love Koontz books. Only one or two I haven't got or read but I'm not sure which ones apart from the latest one. (I'm waiting for paperback! Although it may already be out but I haven't looked lately!) Thanks for the COT add, I've added you to mine too as I enjoyed reading your op and you appear to like the same kinds of books as me so I'll be looking out foor more. Joanna.
