Advantages: price, quick warming Disadvantages: small size, awkward installation
At first glance, the Winterwarm blanket is a great idea. There is extra warming at the feet, which is a boon for those of us with "frozen toes" in the wintertime. However, the extra foot warmth requires that the blanket be installed in a certain direction, and if your bedroom has the power points on the wrong side of the bed, you'll find yourself going through some contortions to determine how best to set it up. Also, even though it is marketed as a "double," it barely covers the center of our standard-sized double bed, and I found myself curling my 5'9" frame into a ball in order to get the benefit of the warmth.
Add to this the fact that the power block sits directly under your arm (if you lay as I do when you sleep) and you will find that there are some design flaws with the blanket.
It is a nice little value-priced warming ...
Advantages: Heats up quickly. Disadvantages: None.
I bought my Winterwarm (Morphy Richards) Heated single Under Blanket about 2 years ago for the single bed in my spare room,
and although the blanket was bought for when friends and family stay over, I did use it myself last winter when my double bed blanket decided to konk out.
The blanket measures 122 x 61cm or 48 x 24in and is the sponge clean only version,
it comes in an off white colour and is made from a tight knit man made material which is really quite soft to the touch.
The blanket is very easy to fit and when laid flat on the bed you will find attached to the sides are the power cord and control, and the ties,
The ties are used to secure the blanket to the bed which is simple enough to do .
I use my blanket directly on the mattress and then have a fleece mattress protector on top and then a flannel sheet ...
Advantages: Cheap, cosy Disadvantages: Catches fire! Uncomfortable power connector.
This morning, just as the alarm went off my Morphy Richards Winterwarm double electric underblanket caught fire. We spotted it almost immediately but not before it had burnt a hole trough the blanket and scorched the bed. The fault lay with the power cable just as it entered the removable plug in the blanket. Had this happened during the night it could have caused a serious fire. The blanket is rated by the manufacturer as being suitable for use overnight. We had it on the lowest setting. It might be comfortable but you only need to be burnt alive once! The blanket was only 9 months old and to me it seems that there is a serious design flaw. There were no visible signs of damage before. ...
