WipEout HD Fury (PS3)

Let me start off by saying that I hate racing games. But Wipeout is so distinct from any other racing experience that I am a huge fan and therefore a hypocrite.

Wipeout uses space ships instead of cars and moves at a faster pace than any other racing game (even burnout). This takes a while to get used to but eventually you get there. There's different speed settings to get yourself used to the game (I still can't play on phantom and struggle on rapier).

Playing through single player lets you unlock ships and different tracks for use in multiplayer modes. Gameplay is pretty simple, you race other ships BUT THERE'S A TWIST. It's a bit like mario kart in that if you fly over certain panels (instead of boxes) you get a random weapon to assist you in winning the race. Weapons include guns, lasers, mines, bombs, shield and speed boosts which is pretty fun times. As well as weapon panels there are panels which offer a quick boost in speed. There's other gameplay modes to keep you amused too such as speed trials, endless tracks etc in fact campaign mode is made up of different events to keep things fresh.

Multiplayer is where it's at though. You play against other players from around the world in any mode you like. Tournaments are fun, there's a certain thrill of racking up points are feeling the pressure of needing 3 more points to reach number one. Voice chat is supported which is always a good thing.

FEEL THE FURY!!!!

That's right the game is enhanced by SO much with the expansion pack 'Fury'. It's a whole new game! It introduces three new modes one of which is the brutal eliminator. In eliminator mode you need to destroy your opponents using weapons. Every time you manage to destroy an enemy ship you get points, reach the target amount of points first to win. You can even flip around at any time and go backwards to shoot an enemy in the face with a plasma cannon MUAHAHAHA. As well as new modes there's updated ships and new tracks which makes the game much better. Wipeout without fury is like toast without butter, if you don't have both you'll get funny looks from everyone around you.

Other notable features are the HD graphics which run at a full 1080p yummy indeed. Custom soundtrack means you can listen to your own music stored on your ps3 if you get bored of the awesome techno beats that play by default. Trophies are in there for all you trophy hunters. If you're really good online then you may even get into the leaderboards (not like me, I really fail online).
