...it is brightly coloured - Woman is wrote in pink near the top and there are few headline articles :
PETE'S PAIN (isn't there enough pain and suffering in the world without having to feel sorry for someone that has had a break up)
JESSIE'S NEW BODY size 14 to size 10 in six weeks (why do we care)
EXCLUSIVE DENISE'S AGONY secret family heartache pushes star to t he edge (oh this might be a bit sad)
I turned the ... ...Doting dad talks exclusively to woman about life after Katie (we really are sad this stuff sells) What is missing from our lives that make us this interested in other people that we don't even know. Usual thing questions asked and answered etc.
Why am I reading this???? No offence intended to regular readers.
Oh what's going to be next and it is "Is there life after soap" - Do we care? Obviously we do or this ... more
I don't buy many magazines anymore but I get them passed over to me once my mum has read them. I find most womens magazines "an easy read" - just something to flick through and be able to put down and pick up whenever you want. Life has been a bit hectic lately so I need a no brainer to read. I picked up the plastic bag with mags in that my mum had left when she was up visiting; I picked out Woman.

I turned the first page and saw the words HOT IN WOMAN THIS WEEK which was just advertising a couple of beauty articles. On this page was a list of the contents organised into catorgaries : Celeb Life Real Life Fashion Beauty and Home Health and Advice Every Week
I turned over the next page and it said "The bigger picture" X FACTOR SPECIAL It shows a picture of Cheryl and Dannii - Who's got the fashion factor - it appears with these pictures that it's Dannii that has. I am not really a reality show fan so didn't fiind this of any interest. Tuned over again and got I was so sick of the fat jibes! (This was advertised on the front cover "Jessie's new body" She apparently dropped two dress sizes in 6 weeks - personal trainer obviously - she states this as soon as she is asked how she did it. I just skim through this as I am not really bothered. Then it's the Peter Andre article (article... wrong word) Doting dad talks exclusively to woman about life after Katie (we really are sad this stuff sells) What is missing from our lives that make us this interested in other people that we don't even know. Usual thing questions asked and answered etc.
Why am I reading this???? No offence intended to regular readers.
Oh what's going to be next and it is "Is there life after soap" - Do we care? Obviously we do or this magazine wouldn't be on the shelves! Now we come to Denise on the edge, I did give this a quick read apparently The Loose Women and Waterloo Road star looks close to breaking point - basically she is very busy and it's tough juggling things she is currently putting in 12 weeks of long hours filming Waterloo Road and her husband isn't around to help as he is working long hours in his latest play which is touring the country. The sad part is she is also dealing with her mum's fight against cancer as well as working.
Not getting any better as Vicky says stuff the diet - Oh dear no wonder men take the mick out of what women read. It's about stars that have lost weight then put some back on - isn't that like some women that are not famous - please tell me why this is interesting!? And there is more about celebs but what is the point of me telling you.
I then came to The double tradgedy that led to love - a real life story about a woman who's husband died then she lost their baby that she was carrying. She then found love with someone else. The X Factor is in here again then there is an article about a women that lost her job when she was pregnant and now makes a living from doing voice recordings for adverts. .... ok slightly interesting. Next is how somebody survived the cult that killed her family - this is like something you would read in a newspaper and is interesting, someones version of how things were in a cult and how she escaped.
More diet stuff!! then some pages about fashion, beauty tips, recipes, some health stuff and problems and letters. Finally puzzles and quick preview of what's goning to happen in the soaps.,
So is that worth 90p - well it depends what you want. Are you interested in other peoples lives? Are you interested in slightly famous people? Or do you not give a damn? Do you think so what about what people are doing? The choice and the decision is yours. I don't think there is much to read in this mag too many pictures when it's about fashion and too much rubbish about slightly famous people infact it's rubbish!!
Advantages: entertaining, celeb news, attractive, tips, helpful Disadvantages: not as cheap as others
...buy though nothing religious.
Woman is a British magazine aimed at, well, women! Its quite attractive to look at, usually quite busy cover titled by the yellow text at the top. This time, the 'Woman' is not just displayed in basic block yellow lettering, but is sparkly now too! This glitter text certainly gives it a special look to draw you in! The issue I have next to me is dated 29th December 2008, so is bound to be quite festive!

After a competition page, there was a whopping ten pages dedicated to Christmas food (and they wonder why they hammer us for being a nation of obesity?!). Though you come to the traditional magazine sections after that, with the problem pages, featuring Dr Chris, the GP from This Morning. There was a really interesting article at the back about ...

Advantages: Easy to read, lovely and cheap, could be worse Disadvantages: Not all that stimulating interllectually
...Published weekly on a Tuesday, Woman costs 68p and is widely available, both in the UK and abroad. It comes on flimsy, trashy, ready to be thrown away rather than stored and treasured paper, but is a worthy buy despite this. The magazine contains a lil’ bit of everything and includes the following sections: *** Features *** Changing each week, these include things like how to get a good deal when buying a car, tried and tested household products ... ...On its requisite interview pages, Woman features celebs who are a bit too mumsy for my liking – stars of Emerdale and Heartbeat for example, neither of which I watch – but then I guess I don’t fit into their target readership anyway, so this is to be expected. *** Every Week *** The bits every women’s mag has, here you’ll find soap updates, horoscopes, a short story, a crossword or two, a letters page and staying in/going ...

...piece on earlier issues of Woman magazine.
Sue Frost
Sue frost is editor of the agony aunt section of the magazine, the usual advice on letters sent in by their readers. Although the advice she gives is good they could do with expanding the feature to include more than just 4 or 5 letters.
The magazines true-life stories always see very traumatic and rather depressing. The crosswords are not challenging enough to be warranted in having 2 placed ...

...a magazine! I called the Woman hotline about six weeks ago, for the chance to win one of 1000 pedicure kits, and this morning, one of the kits actually arrived! Its quite nice too, although I havent tried it yet, but it looks quite smart.
I had to dial an 0906 number, which surprisingly showed up on my telephone bill as costing 16 pence, which is cheaper than the price of a second clas stamp. Woman generally run at least one of these giveaways every ... ...Thursday.
Aside from the giveaways, Woman generally features a mix of articles on health, dieting, cookery (have you noticed how these mags publish the latest diet on one page and a recipe for chocolate mousse on the next?) fashion, childcare issues and of course the usual "I lost love and then found it again with my ex husbands best mate" story. In addition, there is a cover feature each week on a major storyline in the soaps ("Who shot Phil Mitchell? ...

Advantages: Something to read Disadvantages: Just not very interesting any more
...be an avid reader of Woman and hated to miss an issue. That's when there were less good magazines to buy each week. Then, one particular week about three years ago, I realised that it was no longer interesting. The style of writing seemed to have changed and the features were becoming too 'samey.' So I stopped buying it, thinking I would probably really miss it each week. Not a bit. The weeks went by and my life was still the same, I hadn't developed ... ...and value for money and Woman just didn't fit the bill any more. There are now more magazines around than ever, and I'm sure that lots of them are far better. Woman contained all the usual Health advice, Fiction and a bit of showbiz gossip, but there was nothing outstanding. What I really got fed up with, was seeing the picture on the front page of two characters from a TV programme, a soap for instance, and beleving by the headline that I was going ...

Advantages: Hand-bag sized; crammed with articles; focus on real women Disadvantages: Not as glamourous or escapist as some other women's magazines
I have never bought this magazine before but it has just launched a new handbag-sized edition and I was travelling so thought I would give it a try. To begin with I liked the fact that it had a 'real woman' on the cover. A likeable breakfast TV celebrity who is not a size zero but who looked great in a glamorous dress.
That seems to sum up the Woman & Home approach - glamorous but realistic lifestyles for women in their thirties upwards. It is crammed with features, all of which are fairly brief and easy to read in one go. I would just say that the handbag size perhaps limits it a little as I was interested enough in some articles to have wanted a bit more depth, and to wish that they were longer.
The issue I bought (October 2008) had a makeover theme. I really enjoyed reading about various reader makeovers, by Gok Wan in ...

This innovative magazine ,first published just six months ago, billls itself as “… The magazine for women on the move.” You do not have to be a woman nor an expatriate to appreciate this excellent publication. I have now read four separate issues and found it to be a really good read and the standard of writing in this publication ,edited by Joanna Parfitt, is very high. They do incidentally welcome contributions from freelancers and their writer’s guidelines are shown on their website ...

You notice this title as it whizzes through the latest 20 opinions category. Your thoughts conceivably conclude that this is yet another cunningly hatched plan to deviously retract from the true content of the opinion. Well for a refreshing change your assumptions would be absolutely correct!
~~ An Earlier Promise
At the end of an opinion I wrote a short while ago, I did say I would do “Cosmo” next. Sorry guys no can do! I have not read it nor do I have a copy. I thought the Cosmo comment seemed a fitting humorous end to my thoughts in that earlier opinion.
No advertising old opinions in my new ones no sir, try 3 down on my home page!
