CHILDREN WHO KILL Carol Ann Davies

Advantages: compelling insight into child killers
Disadvantages: pulls at the heart strings!

The subject of death and murder is in itself something we have to stomach but the deaths of children and children who kill, well that is something else we have to deal with inside our hearts and souls, children who kill is a fascinating insight into just a fraction of the murders commited by children, some against other children , some against adults, carol ann davies is a renowned author of many a book, each as succesful as the other, this book contains murders of a nature that as a society , we tend to block out, the murder of james bulger being one of them, there are over 15 stories in the book, each tale is laid out in a format that is easy to take in and also makes it easier to read, it starts with the tale then why? then a conclusion. bear in mind you will have to have a strong stomach due to some of the stories inside the book ...

Review of Children Who Kill: Profiles of Pre-teen and Teenage Killers - Carol Anne Davis

Women who kill

Advantages: good overview of serial killers
Disadvantages: lacking in detail

Women who Kill - written by Carol Anne Davis (also author of Children who Kill) profiles 13 female serial killers from Aileen Wuornos (who was later profiled in the film Monster) through to Rose West in what is an interesting yet disturbing read. I have read lots of true crime books in the past and many books on serial killers and although this does offer a condensed look at each of the women I do feel that the analysis is not as indepth as it could be. Carol Anne Davis is both a crime writer and a criminologist and so certainly knows her stuff but it is difficult to write a book about serial killers in much detail when you are written about 13 in one go! Each of the female serial killers are profiled by Carol in the same way: A history of their childhood and life before becoming a killer - many of the women were either ...

Review of Women who kill - Ann Jones

Serial killing brought home

Advantages: Serial killers aren't freaks in another country, they're often the people next door, and that's a terifying notion...
Disadvantages: See 'Advantages'. It is a terrifying notion, and you might want to pretend you never thought it...

'Safe As Houses' from the Do-Not Press is the second novel length sojourn from Carol Anne Davis, following her magnificent debut work in 'Shrouded'. David is a sadist with a double life. Educated and well meaning, determined not to make the mistakes his abusive father made with him, he is devoted to his wife and infant son. Yet he has a secret, a Secret House to go to, where his women are fantasies, and the fantasies are dark. As time goes by, and more girls vanish from the streets of Edinburgh, his wife Jennifer, meek and timid, concludes that her brilliant husband is not all he seems… Within these pages, you will find no larger-than-life Hannibal Lector figure, embodying pure evil, vile and disturbed to outrageous degrees. A large part of the genius in the work of Carol Anne Davis is that everyone, twisted ...
