Advantages: Its A Victorian Filthy Romp Disadvantages: Some may see it as silly!
...I think the title tells you all! But heres my review of a very funny and interesting book! This book was banned in the UK when it came out in two sperate parts. Now it is the stuff of legend!
Dont be fooled by the fact that its sold as Victorian filth, it is really interseting to see what shocked people in those days. One thing that should be said for the author John Cleland is that to write so well as from a womans perspective (and on such a controvesial subject) is a real feat and in those days was ground breaking!
On the funny side if you ever play that game of funny names for body parts (if you get my drift) and you've read this you'll win hands down!
Storyline:
Well the story is of Fanny (Frances) Hill, a girl who ends up loosing her family and moving to London in hope of making it as a wealthy persons maid. Instead...

Advantages: Spares you the agony and full details of John's illness Disadvantages: Too "Theatrical" in places , a real "luvvie" book

With this I mean her diary of John's cancer, one minute you have a paragraph about the latest stage play in the west end in the 1960's, then you are moved to a section about how John is coping with his illness. Why not write from the beginning to the last day, not combine the two ……….?
Sheila spared the gory details of his treatment, not really saying...

Advantages: A fairly insightful look into John's life by someone who really knew him Disadvantages: A little naff and bias in places
...of these being John Lennon. Both students at the Liverpool College of Art, her tweed wearing ways against John's rebellious 'teddy boy' streak soon made them a couple of contradictions, leading to a facinating life story for both partners...
THE BASICS OF THE BOOK
The novel starts off with a rather earth shattering event that did have a profound effect on both Cynthia, and her and John's teenage son, Julian's lives; the night she received the dreaded phone call from Beatles band mate, Ringo Starr. He broke the news of her former spouse's untimely death, which lead to a lot of questions still unanswered to Cynthia, as a woman who clearly did love her man, even in death.
I liked the start of the book because it really hit home about John's legacy; whilst many fans - like myself - will always remember the fantastic music he created, you have...
