photographer and the inspiration for the timeless love songs 'Something' 'Layla' and 'Wonderful Tonight'. Her story is one of drama struggle and ultimately affirmation but her struggles (against addiction tragedy infertility) were lived with two of the twentieth-century's greatest musical icons: her husbands George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Now after 40 years she tells her extraordinary story. From growing up in Kenya in a privileged but broken home becoming a sixties supermodel working with Bailey and Ozzie Clarke and meeting the Beatles to marriage with George and then Eric to the accidents and brushes with tragedy -- her own and Eric's -- this is a mesmerising human story played out among some of the most iconic and charismatic figures of the late twentieth century.

Advantages: Good read which is more than just a story Disadvantages: None
The curiously named "Armadillo" is William Boyd's eighth novel. Born in Ghana and brought up there and in Nigeria, Boyd has had a successful career as a novelist, short-story and screenplay writer and as a journalist. His novels have won critical and popular acclaim. The Ice-Cream War was nominated for the Booker Prize and the superb Restless won the Costa (previously Whitbread) Award for Best Novel in 2006.
What is "Armadillo" about? Boyd helpfully gives us a pointer that small, scaly animals are not necessarily going to be involved by providing a frontispiece to the novel proper where he defines the origin of armadillo as being from Spanish "diminutive of armado armed man, so literally 'little armed man'". Actually it is not a pointer, it is a whacking big clue to understanding the main character, Lorimer Black. It seems a strange ...
Advantages: Has many very good songs and is very well produced. Disadvantages: A two page album sleeve.
Born in Philadephia in 1944 as Patricia Louise Holte, Patti Labelle is widely recognised as one of the best and most consistent female voices in the business. Her style ranges from R & B right through to soul, disco and gospel.
So it came as no surprise at all recently when a choir representing Philadelphia that she coached and mentored won NBC's TV show Clash Of The Choirs in which her choir easily defeated choirs mentored by Nick Lachey, Michael Bolton, Kelly Rowland and Blake Shelton.
This album has some 16 tracks of her very best work. My particular favourites are "Someone Like You", "Kiss Away The Pain", "I'm In Love" and the remarkable duet "On My Own" in which she duets with Michael McDonald.
"On My Own" was a U.S. No 1 hit single in 1986 and was written and produced by what can only be described as the ultimate dream team ...
Advantages: Stunning Vocals, less orchestrated sound overall with an acoustic vibe Disadvantages: A feeling Fabian is going through the motions in places
Introduction
After the relative failure of Belgian singer Lara Fabian's English debut CD in 2000, she returned to the Francophone market, releasing the album "Nue", which yielded a couple of big hits in France in "J'y Crois Encore" and "Tu es mon autre", a duet with Mauranne.
In 2004 however she released another English language album on Sony, entitled "A Wonderful Life".
Like her eponymous English language debut this also suffers from a lack of cohesion due to multiple producers, but this isn't quite as obvious on this release. The album doesn't have a real killer track the way her debut had but is actually, in my opinion, anyway, a better album which shows Fabian's vocal talents off far more than her debut.
What is lacking, however, is the enthusiasm one picked up on in Fabian's 2000 album. She was clearly disillusioned ...
