I told the hubby to get me something different from Tesco at the weekend just gone. I'm a bit fed up with wine and didn't fancy anything that was likely to strip the enamel from my teeth... more

Advantages Advantages affordable and easy to get hold of

Disadvantages Disadvantages tastes a little false

Woodpecker cider is perhaps the best known branded cider. The TV adverts are certainly memorable as they try to publicise the fact that Woodpecker Cider is supposed to be a "refreshing change" So what about the product itself ... Well it is in my opinion an average tasting cider from a can . Woodpecker, I feel is a far better drink when tasted straight from the pump in a public house . Then the taste is unrecognisable form the canned version . This is true with most canned alcholic drinks of course , but more so with Woodpecker I feel than other canned ciders. The Woodpecker in cans is a ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap,well flavoured,

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not for those who prefer a drier drink

My love of cider came from my youth, when I was first old enough to have a glass with a meal when dining out. I think the age was 14 and maybe it still is. But oh how I enjoyed this cider in those early days of my youth. Since those young heady days I have discovered many other ciders, both good and bad, which to me puts this one in the mediocre class. Over the years my tastes have changed from the sweet to the dry. This one is certainly more on the sweet side for my taste although it is described as a ‘Medium Cider’. Nonetheless it is still a good drink, particularly on a hot summers day, low ... more

Advantages Advantages great taste, not too much gas, a few cans will get you merry

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I am someone who has very sweet taste buds and I only drink a few alcoholic drinks because they have to be sweet. I first tried Woodpecker when I was 16 and went out with a friend of mine who adores the stuff and I wasn't sure but it did grow on me. Woodpecker is a medium sweet cider and with a 3.5% by volume is not something that will knock your block off but can get you feeling merry after a few. Now this is ideal for people with a sweet tooth because it does have that sweet taste to it. Believe me if it didn't I would not be drinking the stuff. I can't believe that when I first experimented ... more

    Advantages Advantages Refreshing. Easily Found

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not Very Strong

Woodpecker cider is a medium-sweet style cider with an alcohol content of 3.5% by volume (ABV). It is not to be honest my all time favourite drink or even fave cider,I prefer Strongbow, but it is a refreshing drink on a hot summer's day. My personal preference is for a dry cider but now and again Woodpecker is a pleasant alternative. It is very widely available. Most off licences stock it, its on the shelves of most supermarkets, and few pubs today do not stock cider. Years ago cider actually was seen as a cure for just about everything under the sun. It reputedly relieved gout, alleviated ... more
