Advantages: Beautiful smoothed wood, holes are well positioned, sound quality is amazing, a joy to play.
Disadvantages: Higher register difficult to get used to at first, expensive, require a lot of looking after, may sound sharp or out of tune if played within a group of plastic recorders

...I have a Moeck descant recorder, it's made from Ebony wood. As soon as I layed my fingers over the holes and placed the mouthpiece onto my lower lip, I knew that this was a beautiful recorder. ...an extreme difference between a Moeck and other wooden recorders. Moeck wooden recorders are made with love, you can see and hear that as soon as you play one. Of course, they can be expensive, but when you play it you'll feel instantly that your money was NOT wasted. The holes are positioned comfortably, and the shape of the mouthpiece is rounded and smooth so it makes playing a pleasure. You have to look after these recorders with care though. ... Read review
