The most wonderful thing i own
Review of Yamaha 311 Silver-plated by jayneyo

Advantages: Lovely silver tone
Disadvantages: Silver heads leave marks :(

...was the old old first Yamaha 211 model which i loved. I produce apretty good tone on my own and after 9 years of playing my teacher recommended i get a new flute. I culdn't see any reason why to at first but as soon as I tried the YFL311S i could sure see why. The 311S has an e-mec (allowing you to reach high E more easily) and a split G (which improves tuning) and unlike it's student model sister the YFL211S has a higher quantitty of silver in ...
...careful because as witth all Yamaha flutes it's made to be sharp so you'll always have to pull it out a little. I find that sometimes if I'm playing in a symphony orchestra where there's lots of rest then a big long passage to play that it does stay in tune quite well (better so than my friends YFL411S which is the next model up from the 311S). Overall I would say buy this flute if it's a pastime you're gonna take seriously and put a lot of workin ... Read review

Yamaha YFL221 Flute
Review of Yamaha FL221 C Flute by Doris123

Advantages: Good quality
Disadvantages: Expensive

...I decided to rent a Yamaha YFL221 flute for a few months out of curiosity. Normally I play a different brand flute, but I really wanted to know what a Yamaha was like. Yamaha are well known for the high standard of their musical instruments. In my opinion, this reputation is well deserved. This particular flute retails at around £399, which is the at the more expensive end of the student flute price range. The whole flute is silver plated. This silver ...
...that it may be because Yamaha instruments are "set up" in a warmer climate, so it may need to be warmed up in our colder climate to make it sound the same. However, in my opinion this doesn't affect the quality at all. Although I am quite happy with my normal brand of flute, I would still definitely recommend the Yamaha YFL221 for its sheer quality. ... buying a beginner flute
Review of Yamaha Flutes by hanbag

Advantages: ROBUST, GOOD SOUND, RELIABLE
Disadvantages: MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHERS

...and Jupiter. The Yamaha Company has been in business since 1887 and, without doubt, their student flutes are the best selling in the world. Yamaha have invested in the best technology and materials and, coupled with an excellent quality control, produce consistently reliable and popular flutes. All shops stock the Japanese made instruments (as opposed to the US assembled range, which, in my opinion, is inferior in quality), and always have in a large ...
...1 Both Pearl and Yamaha silverplated instruments have sufficiently reliable mechanisms to ensure a long lifetime of use. The head joint design is biased towards the needs of beginners and so a cost-effective way of upgrading is to change the head joint only. A lot of shops offer an option of a ‘Mid-Range’ japanese flute head joint, such as Miyazawa or Altus, fitted to a flute in the silverplated range. This is sold at the same price as ... Read review

One of the best beginner models on the market
Review of Yamaha 211 Silver-plated by PhilThePenguin

Advantages: Excellent build quality and intonation
Disadvantages: The usual limitations of a beginner instrument

...played both, I'd say the Yamaha is very much worth the extra. The build quality is simply what you'd expect from such a respected make, and that makes all the difference to the tone and tuning as well as the robustness and mechanical reliability of the flute. While not a professional instrument by any means, a beginner should be able to pass several Grades before this flute begins to be the limiting factor in tone production, and the tuning is reasonable ...
...kept to a minimum and with the occasional service the flute will last many years even in the hands of a complete novice. Obviously as with any silver or silver-plated instrument regular cleaning is necessary to prevent tarnishing, but most music shops will bundle a cleaning cloth with an instrument bought new. In all a highly-recommended flute for beginners but beyond Grade 6 or 7, start to think about an upgrade. ... Read review

Sweet music in no time at all
Review of Yamaha FL261 Flute by tev_1

Advantages: Reasonable value, good tone, lightweight, well crafted
Disadvantages: Cheaper beginner flutes are available

...a decade I subjected a Yamaha 261 to much torture, right from those beginning days when you struggle to make a sound let alone anything like music through to passing my Grade 8 exam. The Yamaha 200 series consists of what are referred to as 'Standard' range instruments. This basically means that they are nickel-silver plated (higher specifications feature headjoints or even the whole tubing made out of solid silver or, if you're James Galway or a ...
...comes off a production line; Yamaha subjects all of its instruments to rigorous testing and inspection, and minor adjustments are made by hand to ensure that the instrument you buy meets the highest standards of quality. The 261 is constructed with an offset G key; this means that the instrument is more comfortable hold with keys arranged to fit the shape of your fingers rather than in a straight line; this option is chosen by the vast majority ...
