As I said in my previous opinion about our new washing machine, when we moved into this house in July, things were definitely not as they had appeared to be!
We had a conventional hot water tank with an immersion heater that worked so we could get hot water, but when we tried the central heating, there was nothing doing. We couldn’t get it to work on the timer or by manually switching it on and off.
And so it came to pass that the plumber was called.
We’d found ourselves a good plumber who had been as part of the group of people building and kitting out the en suite bathroom in mom and dad’s room.
He said that we should have a new boiler; either a wall mounted one, or a floor standing one, which would be the more powerful of the two. We chose the wall-mounted version as this would save space in the kitchen, it was the cheaper option and it would be perfectly powerful enough for our needs.

The cost of the boiler plus the labour for the fitting was £1,650. It took the plumber and his mate about two hours to fit the new boiler and to check all the system and make sure all the radiators worked properly.
The hot water is now available constantly, and the boiler is powerful enough for us to able to fill two baths at the same time if we wanted to, although Dave and I usually take showers these days.
When the hot water tap is turned on the boiler fires immediately and within a moment or two hot water flows out of the tap, any time day or night. There is a thermostat on the boiler itself so that the temperature of the water can be controlled. Obviously there would be no need to have the water coming out of the tap at near boiling point, because we’d just have to cool it by adding cold water to it, so we have set it at an optimum level for washing up, bathing etc.
There is a central heating timer on the front of the boiler, which is one with the little tappets all the way round corresponding to the 24 hours in the day at 15-minute intervals. By pushing the tappets in towards the centre of the dial you can control what time of the day the central heating comes on and goes off. There is also a switch to turn the central heating on and off manually.
We also have thermostats on all the radiators so that, when the heating is on, we can make sure that the rooms we are using are the ones that are the warmest. the radiators heat up very quickly once the heating has been switched on too!
The boiler itself also has set of indicator lights on it. One is the mains electricity indicator and should always be on, showing that the boiler is connected to the electricity supply to power the pump and the timers.
There are two further lights corresponding to the central heating and the hot water, which light up when the boiler is in use.
Before the plumber left he handed us a plastic T shaped implement and said he would tell us what to do with it. Well, I did wonder what was coming……
It was actually a key to be used to re pressurise the system. There’s a dial on the front of the boiler showing the water pressure and every time it dips below a certain level we will have to insert the key and turn it in order to increase the water pressure to the requisite level so that the boiler will work efficiently. This will happen every three months or so apparently.
The added bonus is that we now have quite a good-sized storage cupboard where the hot water tank used to be, as that was removed since it was no longer needed.
In conclusion I would say that, although this has been a big expenditure that we could have well done without I am sure that the efficiency of the new system will mean that it will begin to pay for itself straight away.
By the way the title of the opinion is a line from a song, but I don't know what it's called or who sings it!
Advantages: Customer service Disadvantages: Everything else.
The Worcester Greenstar boilers are probably the most overrated boilers on the market. Often people argue that the boilers are very good quality German boilers, in reality these boilers are not German but are actually made Worcester, UK! I would not describe these boilers as "rubbish"or "unreliable" but rather over hyped and not worth how much there are. Another thing about these boilers is that if you really wanted to get this boiler you would have ... ...into most kitchen units. Ease of use: The boilers are easy to use but when it comes to re pressurising the CH system things can get tricky; you must use the plastic ...

Ok, I opted for a Worcester Bosch 24I range and then I started shopping around…God bless Internet !! Advantages: Great Service/Warranty Package; easy to use Disadvantages: Nothing yet.
We had the Worcester / Bosch Combi Boiler Greenstar 30CDi installed in May this year, having recently moved into a house with a pre-historic back boiler. Having had over 8 heating engineers round to quote for the job and provide advice on their preference of boiler for our 3-bed semi, and then having reviewed the various boiler recommended (Valiant etc) we opted for the Worcester / Bosch Combi Boiler Greenstar 30CDi primarily on family recommendations, ... ...years if installed by a Worcester installation engineer - as ours was) but the winning factor - that Worcester provided an extended warranty to 5 years, with the inclusion of a yearly service for 5 years for only £230 approx. You pay more than that in servicing alone for 3 years - let alone servicing by an approved technician for 5 years.
So far, and bearing in mind it\'s the \'summer\' season our boiler has been fantastic. I\'ll update this review ...

Quick review of Worcester Combi Boiler
We inherited a Worcester Bosch Highflow 400 seven years ago. It has chuntered away in the utility room giving us instant heat and water with relatively little trouble in all that time. It is sensitive to drops in pressure in the system (ours is a sealed system) so when we use the boiler relatively little ie on holiday or during summer it can cut out. We have to top up the water using a spiggot attached to the pipework outside the boiler, remove the front to check the pressure gauge which is a bit of a fag and press the reset buttons but we feel its been a small price to pay for something which has otherwise been really reliable. ...

...installation, we decided on the Worcester / Bosch Greenstar Condensing combi 30CDi.
The Actual installation took two days but his also included having all our radiators fitted with Thermostatic valves for even better efficiency, the removal of the old hot water storage sytem and also the removal of the cold water stoarge sytem from the loft space. The boiler itself has a rather stylish look over the older "square brick" look and it's only 760x440x360 in size so leads itself to mounting in either an airing cupboard, as we did, or for mounting in the kitchen. The 30CDi si an A rated efficiency condensing combi boiler and we have allready noticed the improved efficency and savings over the boiler we had fitted in our previous house
We have now had the boiler ...

When we had our house extended 3 years ago, our builder recommended the BAXI Barcelona. I think his intentions were well founded in trying to get the right balance of price/performance.
This device has failed at least once every year.
Maintenance and repair has always been carried out by British Gas.
At the time of writing, we have been without hot water or central heating for 6 days. The BG engineers have been here every day. We have seen 3 different engineers.
ALL of these engineers have said that they would not put BAXI on their list of systems to even begin to think about when considering a COMBIboiler. They all say that Worcester Bosch and Vaillant are the only serious players in this market space.
I'm no gas engineer or plumber but in my experience, this make/model is a complete waste of money. ...
