Advantages Advantages Hick, Moody as coach, some youngsters coming through

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Batting collapses...

It's always difficult trying to be objective when writing about a team you support, and this is especially difficult in the case of Worcestershire, because of the feeling of frustration that wells up in you when the subject is discussed. This is a classic example of a team failing to live up to its potential, and any hopes for better things in 2001 must be tempered by the realisation that underachievement has been the order of the day recently. The 2000 season was a case in point: considering the array of talent available to the club, I think it was reasonable to expect promotion to the first ... more

Advantages Advantages Good start to season

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dreadful finish to season

Mid-way through the season Worcestershire were having a great season. Favourites to win the National League Div1 several points clear. Looking set for promotion from Division 2 of the championship. Just beaten Gloucestershire in the Nat West trophy. Then the Gloucestershire game was replayed due to an ineligble player and Worcestershire lost. The season seemed to plummet from there on. No bowler could back up the quality Glenn McGrath. Graeme Hick was absent due to the ECB Central Contracts and the run supply dried up. Consequently Worcestershire lost almost all of their remaining National ... more

    Advantages Advantages good county player

Disadvantages Disadvantages can't hack it at the top

G Hick is the most fortunate player to be in the England cricket team . He is keeping out good young talent for the future like Michael Vaughan the talented batsman from Yorkshire. Hick is not reliable , dosen't score enough runs and has had too many chances to prove himself at the International level. How many more games does he have to play before the selectors realise he is NOT good enough for international cricket? I don't care how many fifties or hundreds he gets for his county Worcestershire he is a failure at top level cricket. What puzzles me is why the selectors don't see it . The ... more

    Advantages Advantages natural talent

    Disadvantages Disadvantages composure

Like many worcestershire followers, I have been notrhing but amazed at Graeme Hick's inability to perform at the top level when he has consistently performed so well for his county side. In the early nineties, hick was regarded as the saviour of the english game, however consecutive series against the wrath of the west indians has seen him floundering, and his inability to make the most out of good starts has led critics to beleive that he may not be able to be classed as a great test player. Let us hope he does it for england out in sri lanka, as time is running out. ... more
