One year ago I was screaming with joy when I joined screaming. net, who wouldn’t if you got unlimited totally free Internet access (of peak) for the price of £ 9.99 phone rental only. For 6 months I enjoyed the sheer luxury and then suddenly my world changed as the company was taken over by World online. The Internet package was changed and now I had to pay £ 2.99 for 50 hours of Internet access plus the phone rental. Still not bad but of-course nothing compared to unlimited access. Years ago, back in the hazy depths of time, before the dawn of the millennium – my ISP was known as LocalTel and rather impressively decided to offer free internet access at offpeak times for only the cost of the line rental. Of course this meant that you had to leave BT but the offer was sufficiently great for my family to jump ship. Then they decided to rebrand the service Screaming.net, which was quite suitable considering the quality of service at the time. £3 a month for 50 hours internet acces at evenings and weekends? At that rate, I was pretty quick signing up to WorldOnline's FreedomLite tariff when I first came across it 9 months ago. What's more, I found it both reliable and fast, and although I would get an engaged tone from time to time, I never failed to connect on retrying. If there was a down side, it was having to sign up to WorldOnline's telephone line rental, but as it was cheaper than BT's, I didn't see it as a problem. I originally joined an ISP called Screaming.net 2 years ago becuase they offered 24/7 internet access free of charge for £9.99 a month. A bargain i thought, and all I had to do was change my phone company. Well i signed up and for 6 months everything was great, then, DISASTER. Screaming.net was bought out by World Online. My nightmare story starts back in July, when I joined up with Screaming.net and Localtel to take advantage of their unlimited calling package. Or rather I tried to join up. They were obviously not prepared for the demand and took about three weeks to get any sort of response. When I finally got a response from them, it was a notification that they were transferring my phone number from BT to Localtel.
