I joined a company called LocalTel before WorldOnline bought them out. The customer service of LocalTel was absolutely appalling - they've threatened court action against me due to my credit card having expired and they never gave me a chance to give them new card details!! Well, has the customer service improved since WorldOnline took over? Well, the answer is absolutely NO!!! They do not reply to letters. I suppose they don't have enough staff to read the massive pile of complaints they receive day in, day out!
Furthermore when I signed up with LocalTel I was offered FREE internet access but now this is limited to only 50 hrs per month and a monthly charge of a meagre £2.99. However, the point is that my contract says I am entitled to free internet access for life but they say that they have a clause which says they are entitled to charge their customers.
Despite still being the best option for me I am still seriously considering other ISPs and may go back to BT. At the end of the day, customer service counts a lot!
