Type of game: MMORPG ( massivly multiplayer online role playing game). Usually across the globe containing a large number of players from many countries. The World of warcraft servers are slightly different in the way that they are group by country. Being from the uk there are loads of servers to choose from. A lot of them contain other nationalties (mainly swedish or dutch) which are only european as the american and asian versions of the game have entirely different servers.
Choosing your server: There are 4 types of server to choose from when you first start the game and i will briefly explain the characteristics of each server. Normal: these types of server are classed as the neutral servers. They enable you to create a character on each side of the fight within one server, although you wont be able to trade communicate or anything with opposite sides. This server is less pvp based and focuses more on epic quests and raids. The only time you can be attacked by a member of the opposing side is when you are in a battleground or you enter an enemy stronghold. PVP: This type of server focuses more on the player vs player aspect of the game. You will only be able to create a character on one side and that character could be attacked at any time within the game except for in a dungeon. This type
of server is not for the person that would get easily frustrated as it can get annoying at times when members of the opposing team attack you continuously. RP: roleplaying servers are for people that wish to stay in character the whole time and therefore will give them a chance to create a character as a second life. The problem with roleplaying servers can be that some people don't play in the same way and it can get very annoying. RPPVP: Role playing player vs player is the same as the standard role playing servers but with the added pvp action.
Now that you understand the realms the next step is to create a character. When choosing the type of character that you will be playing you have to bear in mind how you would like to play the game ( e.g spells or melee combat.) The first step to choosing your character is to choose which side you wish to play on (horde or alliance). Each side has 4 races to choose from. Alliance: Dwarfs, Gnomes, Humans, Night Elves Horde: Troll, Orcs, Undead, Tauren Each race has its own specially bonuses and abilities so it is recommended that you read these before you choose your character as they can be more beneficial to some classes than they can be to others. The classes are as follows Rogue Warrior Priest Druid (tauren or nightelf only) Paladin (alliance only) Shaman (horde only) Hunter Mage Warlock
Each class has its own abilities and combat types which i will give a brief explanation of here. Rogue: stealth assasin style character high damage low health and armor Warrior: Tank, low damage high health high armor Priest: Healer, low health low damage very good healing spells Druid: all rounder, can morph into different forms giving different bonuses and can also heal, medium health medium damage Paladin: healer/tank not quite as good at healing as a priest and not quite as good at tanking as a warrior but good all rounder Shaman: totem caster, places totems that can do damage, give bonuses, slow or reduce enemy armour, can also heal Hunter: ranged character with pet high damage and if used well the pet can take a lot of damage aswell but requires a lot of patience and skill to play well Mage: spell caster specialises in light magic such as water, fire, ice etc Warlock: Spell caster specialises in dark magic such as shadow and demons
Once all this has been chosen it is now time to start playing. The main object of the game is to level your character up and obtain better items to improve stats, damage and armour. Questing is the easy way to do this throughout the game but can get a bit boring and repetitive. This is why blizzard added a few more things to the game to spice it up a little. Dungeons: there are many dungeons within the game, These are also referred to as instances. This usually involves making a group and working your way through the enemies within the dungeon fighting a few bosses on the way. The advantages of dungeons are the increased experience recieved from 'elite' mobs, better drop percentage of better items, and the chance to make friends! They usually involve groups of 5 but at higher levels there are some raid dungeons involving as many as 40 people. Battlegrounds: This is the feature that blizzard added to help you to show off your skills against the other side. there are 3 battlegrounds with different entry points depending on your level Warsong gulch level 10+ 10-19 20-29 and so on Arathi basin level 40+ 40-49 50-60 Alterec valley level 50+ there are a few other smaller things that blizzard included but i will leave these for you to find yourself.
Gameplay: this game is so addictive it is not for the faint hearted. I fully recommend that you make sure you get a balance between playing the game and doing other things as it could well ruin your life. ........Ok thats the warning over with. This game is fantastic and involves a huge amount of gameplay and fun. The game itself has entertained me for a year and a half now and i still play it. It is well worth spending th money that it costs each month but only if you think you will play it. That said i play onl;ine with a few of my m8s aswell and we socialise whilst playing.
Graphics: This game is a very graphically demanding game and requires a fairly decent pc to run it smoothly but the intial cost of the pc is worth if you are able to witness the game on full graphical settings without and jerking or lag problems.
Difficulty: This game is quite difficult to master at first but once you get into the game all functions and keys start to become second nature
Conclusion: I believe that this game is fantastic and will entertain a huge variety of people just due to the fact that it has such a big database. it will never bore you, (but if it does you canalways cancel your direct debit or stop buying the game cards). I would highly recommend this game to anyone that enjoys a massive fantasy adventure.
