Vanity Publishing For Kids
Advantages: See your childs work in print Disadvantages: Vanity publishing disguised as competitions
...this company too. Youngwriters.co.uk is part of the Forward Press Ltd company who claim to be the largest publishers of new poetry in the world. This does not mean they are the publishers of the best new poetry in the world, simply that they run loads of competitions where everyone is a winner and gets published for a fee, in other words vanity publishing. Their main competitions seem to be run through primary schools where they woo the teachers ... ...are winners as well as certificates and bookmarks for the kids who enter. I have no objection to vanity publishing, it is really nice to have a copy of your or your child's work bound into a proper book as a keepsake, what I do object to is competitions where everyone is a winner and where the company is not honest and upfront about things before you enter. The website is vague about the competitions only promising that the best writers will receive ...

Where I learned to write (properly)
Advantages: A unparalleled wealth of information Disadvantages: Addictive / Overwhelming for newbies
...~ INTRODUCTION ~
eharlequin.com I stumbled across last year. I was interested in finding out the guidelines for writing for Mills & Boon, and found Harlequin, which is based in Toronto, Canada, and Mills and Boon's parent company.
Not just guidelines (which you will find on millsandboon.co.uk if you are interested) but a whole host of bulletin boards.
And not only dozens and dozens of boards, but a real community - including a series of boards ... ...(source: RWA, www.rwanational.org) - and eHarlequin.com reflects this.
So, writing romance? I'll talk about that in more detail in a moment - first let me tell you a bit more about the eharlequin site in general.
~ eHarlequin.com CONTENTS ~
eHarlequin.com describes itself as the "ultimate destination for women's fiction" and, so far as my own web surfing has discovered, it probably is. No other publisher, or organisation, has the same volume of ...

Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You - But Wish I Could!
Advantages: Lots of Articles, Multi-Faceted Informational Site Disadvantages: Poor Presentation, Lacks Marketing & Web Creativity
...On a more positive note, ewritersplace.com does offer a mountain of information for writers - basically targeting newer ones - on nearly every aspect of writing that can be imagined. Courses are also offered for those first-timers, or for those who just need a brush-up, and there's lots of advice to be had, as well. The one thing that I didn't notice was a listing for writing opportunities (paid or unpaid), but then it was hard to get past the layout ...
