Apparently Wuthering Heights is not to everyone's taste. I think that's because of T.V's (and. yes. America's) interpretation of it is a love story. That's only part of it. WH is the family history of the Earnshaws, and a little later, the Lintons. Thier lives become intertwined by love, marriage (and in this novel the two ARE different)violence and death.
The love element is between Catherine and Heathcliff, (I bet those names sound familiar) but it isn't just love. It's passion, affected by the Yorkshire moores where they grow up.
You really have to understand that it isn't just a romantic or tragic love story to be able to enjoy the book, So don't go in with any pre- conceptions.
I first read this book when I was ten or eleven, and understood it comepletely, and I aint no genius (you can probably tell from my spelling) so if you don't like it, don't blame it on the language or the layout. And also don't over analyise it. It ruins it!!! (I had to read it in school and had to investigate barriers and windows... I dunno!!!)
