Manufacturer's product description
The WY-55 multi-personality general purpose display terminal provide users with a rich feature set, reliable design and affordable price, further enhancing Wyse's leadership in ASCII/ANSI/ PCTerm terminals. In addition, the complete WY-50 compatibility makes the WY-55 a perfect successor for the WY-50. Wyse designed the WY-55 to work in a broad spectrum of environments with almost any computer system. Users may select any of the most popular ASCII emulations (including the fully compatible WY-50 mode), ANSI (such as VT220), PCTerm and UNIX Console. This great mix of personalities can handle traditional minicomputer and mainframe environments as well as multiuser PCs. State-of-the-art technology and design make the WY-55 exceptionally user-friendly. Choose a green, amber or paper-white 14-inch flat screen. The extra-fast 80 Hz refresh rate delivers a flicker-free dynamic-focused display image. High-resolution character cells offer clear and crisp text. Overscan, borderless full-screen video further enhances viewing comfort. High-quality keyboards with the unique Wyse "touch and feel" are still the industry's all-time favorite. Further, a built-in "Rest Timer" can remind users to do what its name suggests. The streamlined and stylish housing offers front-mount brightness, contrast and power controls, a tilt-and-swivel base, plus a firmware access door for easy feature upgrades.

Advantages: Large HDD for something so small Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...So, I have recently accquired my first Laptop.
This offering from Compaq boasts a Celeron 700MHz, 64MB RAM, of wich 8MB is shared with the 2x AGP graphics chip, 10GB HDD, 3.5" FDD, 24x CD-ROM, PCMIA slot, 12.1" TFT screen, 56KB modem and 2 USB ports.
The screen takes some getting used after a CRT as it is very susceptible to reflections and glare however this is only a small price to pay.
The battery lasts between 90mins and 2 hours depending upon what you are upto.
Not too heavy on it's own, but when you stick it in a case with all of its cables etc. you soon feel the wait walking around Manchester City Centre, carting it onto trains & trams.
The onboard touch pad is fine, however prolonged use did give me a lot of pain in the top joint of my mouse finger so I would recommend buying a PS2 mouse and mat if you intend to use...

Advantages: Very high quality, no flickering Disadvantages: very bright
...I have been using this monitor for about six months now. I am impressed with the small space it takes up on my desk which allows more room for writing paper and journals for my research. A normal CRT monitor would normally give me headaches but this tft monitor has not even got close yet. It runs at 1024 by 768 pixels. I would have bought this a long time ago if I had known the quality of these monitors. I have found that the colours displayed on this screen are accurate enough for me to be able to play dvds better than on the crt I had previously. Since I bought this monitor I have found that I have a saving of money on the electricity bill. (This may have been due to the inefficiency of my crt monitor)....

The Duron running at 800 MHz shows a great ability to pump out the frames in Quake III: Arena. Overclocked 200 MHz to 1 GHz it increases by about 20 frames/per second or a 14% increase. Right between them lies the Athlon Thunderbird 800 MHz processor, coming in at about 6% faster than the Duron.
Well sorry if that was a bit longwinded...

Great powerful battery that lasts long. You must keep in charging over night, I’d say at least 15 hours for a 7 hour filming shoot, trust me i directed a film for my final year project at university. Always keep in mind that the battery will go down... more
