If you are big on gaming and nothing else then the CORE Xbox 360 package is well worth the money. With graphics that more or less equal that of the PS3 but for half the price I decided to purchase one and I was not disappointed.
I decided against the other consoles because I am after pure gameplay and needed a range of games with good longevity, I bought this console not for a music hub, DVD player or internet capabilities, more for the great range of games (many exclusive to the 360). Another determining factor where the range of games unlike the Nintendo Wii the Xbox 360 has a more adult orientated catalogue of games which appeal to me as well as some fun and cartoony games for younger players.
If you're like me and you're after a console then definitely go for the core system, it is around 100 pounds cheaper but still comes with everything you need to begin gaming. Consoles
like the PS3 are very good but I don't want to be sold things I'm never going to use - why should I pay 400 - 500 pounds on a console which I am only going to use for playing games, on don't want to store my music back catalogue on it - for me that's what I have a PC for. Even the Core Xbox 360 can be expanded with the purchase of the 20GB hard drive for around 60 - 70 pounds, this is great if at any time you decide you want to start using the 360 as some kind of entertainment hub. Out the box you will get the basic console without a hard drive, a wired controller (which will save money on batteries / the hassle of charging). You will also get all the necessary leads including the Internet leads so you connect to Xbox Live ASAP.
The sound quality and graphics are superb (despite not having an HDTV). The console is easy to set up and very easy to use - it does have a dashboard system for organising your files but this is easy to navigate and quick to bypass you're after some serious gaming. The Xbox 360 console. As with the premium edition, offers three powerful core processors pump out 720p/1080i output, 16x9 cinematic aspect ratio, anti-aliasing for smooth textures, full surround sound and DVD playback right out of the box.
There is a component which I would deem a vital accessory, this is the Official XBox 360 Memory Unit (64MB) which you should be able to purchase for under 20 pounds, this is vital for saving your games if you do not have a hard drive. In time it may also be worth buying the Official Wireless controller and the play and charge kit - this makes for easy wireless gaming - I later purchased one and use the wired controller when I play 2 player.
I find myself playing on my Xbox 360 almost everyday, there is currently a huge array of games available and more exciting titles on the horizon. In no way do I regret the 200 pounds I spent and I am glad I chose this over the rival consoles that I have played on 9/10.
Having purchased an Xbox 360 you will need some games, the following list are games which I could personally recommend:
Recommended gaming: 1. Gears of War - for any shooting fan, great multiplayer online and offline, stunning visuals. 2. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - for any fan of RPGs, hundreds of hours of gameplay and stunning free roam-able worlds. 3. Saints Row - Great gang shooter / adventure to keep us busy until the release of GTA IV 4. Dead Rising - A difficult game not for faint hearted but well worth a look.
For the sports fans there are a collection of EA games including FIFA and other sports as well as the latest installment of the popular football rival Pro Evo.
There are also a huge range of racing games such as Burnout Revenge, Project Gotham Racing and Test Drive Unlimited.
Other game highlights include: Crackdown, Lost Planet, Viva Pinita, Call of Duty 2 and 3. And with some highly anticipated titles on the horizon such as: GTA IV, Halo 3, Halo Wars, Burnout 5, Turok, Guitar Hero II, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Mass Effect, Medal Of Honor: Airborne, Resident Evil 5. Don't forget that Xbox 360 is yet to reach its prime and amongst the high profile titles their will no doubt be something for everybody.
