We purchased this scanner after doing a great deal of research on Automatic Document Feeders (ADF). It was the best available for the money (we paid £299) with a brand name that has a good track record in the document scanning/copying industry.
Initial impressions on receiving the scanner were good, the build quality of the product was excellent, and the packaging was also great.
Installation of the scanner went smoothly, with all drivers and software being found straight away which was good.
When in action the scanner performs well, with the ADF being a godsend for scanning large numbers of pages at once. The bundled software (paperport) works a treat and can save documents direct to pdf format. As well as this the software enables scanned pages to be imported directly into virtually any application installed on your machine. This is far quicker than having to scan, then save, then re-open the file from within the said program.
There is also a nifty utility which straightens pages, should they have been photocopied previously at an angle you simply draw a line with your mouse on the text or item which needs to be horizontal and paperport does the rest.
Another feature which is quite handy is the ability to stack pages together, this is great for multi page documents which really need to be kept together. Simply highlight the pages you want to keep as one document and click on stack. All highlighted pages now appear as one document, which then enables you to forward it by email, print it or anything else which springs to mind.
Paperport also incorporates OCR (Optical character recognition) should you wish to scan an edit something which only exists as a hard copy, this is a excellent time saving feature.
The document feeder itself is a work of art, since we've been using the scanner there has not been one paper jam. This was something that concerned me before it arrived, as some of the documents we need to scan aren't in the best condition. But so far so good.
Scan quality is excellent and makes archiving a doddle.
I'd thoroughly recommend this scanner to anyone who needs a system for archiving heaps of paperwork without spending a small fortune. The bundled software is excellent and is in no way a watered down version.
All in all a great piece of kit.
