Last year was a good year for me at work, I didn't seem to have to ask for anything, it was all suggested by my boss, new lap top, new widescreen pc for when I was in the office and new colour printer even though the lease hadn't quite ran out on my old one. However there are always ulterior motives to everything, nice new lap top means I can work more from home, new wide screen PC means I can design more in house and nice new printer meant that I could print more of my designs in house as opposed to outsourcing it.

Having two colour printers in the office, both Xerox Phaser's but getting to the stage where they had had there day, I called Pete, my local printer expert to come down and have a chat with me about what options were available to me. His eyes probably lit up when I made that call, as when he tries to contact me, I'm either out of the office, in a meeting or I pass it to my PA who lets him down gently that I am not looking for anything at the moment.

I gave him a specification of what I wanted (I want a better one than the one I have got) and he came down to me with plenty of leaflets on different models which i narrowed them down to two machines, however I advised that I would make my decision based on the quality of the prints and sent him back with a disc containing my artwork to obtain prints so I could comapre them. There was around £120 difference on the cost for the quarter and when I received the prints back, he wouldn't tell me which one was from which printer, however their was one print that was far more superior than the other and yes it was the more expensive, however I ordered it to be delivered first week of January.

When it was delivered I had such a shock, it took three of our guys to carry it into my office and they said to me where do you want it, i hadn't got a clue it was huge so just had them leave in on the floor. It was by no means going to sit on a desk top and could not go where my others printers were because it was far too big. In the end I had to purchase a cheap table to place it on until I can up with a plan. It make the office look terrible, a hge printer stuck in the middle of it virtually.

After a week had passed and I was fed up of looking at it in its current position, I decided to call my friend Pete and order the extra paper trays that would make it a free standing machine as the one shown in the photograph above. This was much better when they arrived and now fits underneath the bench which I have my other two colour printers on.

This printer now has plenty of options for me, with four trays that can be selected individually when you are printing, this has given me plenty of scope when producing documents in house. It has the options for A5, A4, and A3 paper and also the trays are slightly larger in order to take SRA4 and SRA3 paper which is fantastic. For those of you that are unaware of what SRA paper is, this is slightly larger paper that you can print A3 and A4 documents on a trim them down to A4 and A3 sizes by using the crop marks on them. This makes documents produced in house look more professional. It also gives you the duplex feature to print both sides, with the size not being a problem.

The machine will take a capacity of 650 sheets however I normally fill it by the ream to avoid any paper jams howver I have had none of these occur as yet. As with all Xerox Phaser machines paper jams are always easy to clear anyway if the occur. The print speed is very good. It prints 35 page per minute in colour and 45 pages per minute in black and white which is great when I am doing huge print runs as it doesn't take too long to print them off.

The quality of the colour of the machine is flawless. I may change my mind in a couple of months however as a new printer with new cartridges and new consumables I have no problem at all in producing newsletters or small brochures in house as I know that the quality is exceptional. It will also take various weights of paper and thinner card and will feed through the bypass tray easily to produce an excellent job. This is one problem I have always encountered regarding different weight paper however I have no problems at all now.

The consumables are really easy to change. They are in long tubes and you just move a button on the cartridge that is currently in, slide that tube out and then slide the next one in. Easy Peasy. No poblems at all.

The only problem that I do have at the moment is the smell. I am assuming that it is due to it being a new machine however the first large print job that I did on it, it did leave a terrible smell lingering in the office, which I am sure will go away as the machine is broken in.

All in all, I am very pleased with my new printer. The leasing cost per quarter is reasonable and I can guarantee that i am going to save my company money as more can now been produced in house as opposed to outsourcing it to printers.

Great Printer.
