Well just under 2 years ago I upgraded my PC and decided I needed a decent printer to go with it.I ended up in PC World and bought the Xerox Workcentre M940.After shopping around and listening to others the old problem of the colour cart being thrown away because one of the three colours had run out, well I didnt want to waste the remaining ink in the other 2 so I thought hard about it.I also didn`t have a scanner so this printer was a scanner, copier, fax, printer all in one.A the time it cost me £149 and all the coloured inks are in seperate carts!Black costs £16.99 and the three colours cost £11.99 each.
The box contained my all in one plus:-
cd rom software warranty, getting started book and reference guide 4 ink cartridges 2 printheads a power cord paper input tray paper output tray and a USB cable(normally seperate)
Having read the clear getting started book it was easy to set up and install and load the software. The software took a little while due to the number of items included!
PAPER SET-UP-type and size LIGHT AND DARK-light and darkness control and colour intensity MENU-enter and exit button COLOUR/BLACK AND WHITE button QUALITY- best/normal/express/draft COPY QUANTITY button START button POWER button SCAN button and COPY SIZE/FORMAT button(12 options)
The software included was quite generous, apart from the obvious printer driver was, Pagis Pro 3 database Textbridge Pro 9 Quicklink 3 PC fax and MGI photosuite
The Xerox will print a number of different media items including cards,envelopes,labels,iron-on transfers(made some wicked tee shirts),photos, transparencies, banners and posters.
The Xerox isn`t the fastest thing in the world but it`s not that slow in operation,it prints, scans and copies at 12 ppm in black and white or 7 ppm in colour up to a resolution of 1200x1200 dpi and has sizing options of 25-400% in 1% increments so you can get something the exact size you want it!
its intray holds 150 sheets and the outtray holds 50.I neglected to note the weight but its reasonably heavy and robust, its size being 19" w 16" d 11" h so its not small but then again I dont have to find space for a seperate scanner!
In the 2 years almost that i`ve had it I have no complaints at all,i`ve used all the functions and features, the ink lasts well and the results are excellent. When I copy photos they come out just like the originals, sometimes very hard to tell the difference!
I couldn`t be happier,if I had to find a fault its that the print heads are not part of the ink cartridges and £35 each, they are not under warranty as they are classed as a consumable item by Xerox. This isn`t too much of a problem though as I use my printer a lot every day and i`ve replaced them once each in 2 years,so even if a little pricey they do last.
If you`re looking for a good all in one I would say buy this one 100%
