Advantages: Gives credit to those who wouldn't otherwise get it.
Disadvantages: Very high interest, terrible customer service.

Then the debt was passed onto "impact debt collections", who as far as I can see are a branch of Vanquis bank...these people phone us around 15 times a day, we never gave them our mobile numbers...yet somehow they managed to get the numbers, and now we get calls at 8am through til 8pm, the most annoying thing is, we try to answer the calls so that we can get it sorted, but as soon as we pick up, its disconnected or somebody says hello, and then when you reply they put down the phone, I know its Impact Collections as I have typed the number into a search engine, and it comes up as their company!!! My recommendation would be; if you must get a credit card (think very very hard ...

Vanquis Credit Card

Advantages: Convenient, Accessible to those with poor credit rating
Disadvantages: High interest rate and heavy debt collecting if you default

I have been unfortunate in my life to accumulate a number of credit card and loan debts. I have been struggling to pay these for the last four years, although I have now reached a point where things are getting much easier to handle, and the total value of my debt has decreased significantly. When I realised there was a problem, all my credit cards were cut up and returned to the respective creditors. However, this of course left me without a credit card. Initially, this didnt seem to be a problem, as quite frankly I had had enough of them! However, when my bank decided to withdraw my debit card as well, things took a turn for the worse. Virgin Credit Card : 'Plastic Fantastic'

Advantages: Lower interest rates than other credit cards, stylish choice of card designs, widely used
Disadvantages: Minimum payment of £25 is quite high. Additional charges can be costly, alot of additional post.

to use it, thinking that one purchase might lead to another and so on. I decided to give customer services a ring to lower my credit limit to £200. This made sure I wouldn't be tempted to go over the top and flash the plastic. Having owed £100 on a Visa card, I transferred this across to my new Virgin credit card. On the Virgin Money website it says card transfers are free of charge but however I found this not to be the case as my account had a £3 Virgin fee applied to it for the transfer. My Barclaycard was about 27% APR a year and I thought I'd save money transferring to my Virgin card which is about 16.8% so over the next 4 or 5 months I would be paying less interest. I found this to be the case and on a balance of £100, I would only have to pay around £1 on interest a month, compared to the £2 interest a month on the Barclaycard ...
