Back in the days when laptops were not built with on board network ports, PCMCIA was the only way to add a laptop to a conventional ethernet network. I bought my xircom card from a computer fair for just £20, back when they were a rareity. I got home and hooked it up, only to find although it advertises only using one PCMCIA slot, it actually takes up the room of two on most laptops. However, this prevents needing a short jumper wire from the card, the network cable just goes straight into the end of the card. A great feature is the two status lights on the top of the card which can be seen when the card is in use. One for connectivity, and another for traffic. This is especially useful if you are having troubles with your network. Th drivers for the card come included with windows 2000, however i had to download them for windows 98, but it does work fine. I've never had a problem with the adapter, but its so small that it sometimes slips to the bottom of my bag and it takes me ages to find it. Overall, a great product at a great price.
