Recently, in the hectic return to university, I've been burning the candle at both ends a bit and it's begun to play havoc with my complexion. Huge red spots appearing all over my face and dark circles under my eyes which make me look as if I've been in a fight and lost! Rather unfairly, none of my friends seem to suffer from their equally busy lifestyle in the same way as me at all! Ah, such is life! However, there is one product that remains my lifesaver in such times of need and that is my Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat (Radiant Touch to us plebs!). It claims to "add highlight, refresh your make-up and brighten your complexion" as well as offsetting the complexion's dulling tendencies and creating a natural glow".

This fabulous product is renowned among beauty experts everywhere as being the best concealer around. It originally came in just one shade to (supposedly) suit everyone's skin tone, doing away with all of that pesky 'search for the right colour' nonsense, although recently YSL have added a darker shade (3) designed to suit Asian skin tones and a pale one for the pasty English Roses (1). I was initially sceptical that just 3 shades could really suit everyone, but my skin tone is olive and this blends in equally well with my skin as it does with my paler friends.

The product comes in a very stylish gold pen style applicator containing 2.5ml of concealer. It was one of the first 'pen style' applicators and the design is fantastic- concealer is pressured onto the brush bristles ready for application. It is so easy to use, simply remove the lid, click the end a few times, and then use the brush tip to apply and blend over any dark circles, lines, or rough patches that may be lurking. You only need the tiniest bit- one click of the pen for each eye works wonders (lucky when you consider the price!). The great thing about this product is that you don't have to be a make-up artist to apply it- even the most cak-handed person (i.e. me!) can apply this successfully and get the type of complexion you can only get by drinking 2 litres of water a day and getting 8 hours sleep.

Like many products available now, the Touche Eclat works by containing light reflecting particles which bounce light away from those problem areas leaving them looking radiant and glowing. The texture of this product is divine! It goes on like silk and blends in fantastically with the skin, leaving it smooth and glowing. It also lasts all day so no annoying touch ups are needed (although it is the perfect handbag accessory!). Unfortunately, it doesn't cover up spots or blemishes (in fact, for some reason, maybe due to the light reflecting particles, it seems to attract attention to them!) There's no need to really rub in harshly, just apply a tiny bit, mainly to the inside of your eye where shadows will be most obvious, and then dab in gently with a finger. You can also use to highlight other parts of your face - cheekbones, that little dip below your lower lip.

I find this product fantastic! Much as I wanted to find that it didn't work (a perverse urge to prove the beauty experts wrong!), I can see exactly why so many people rave about this! I have used it not only on myself, but also on my friends and it works its magic on everyone (although it did work better on my friends as they don't suffer in quite the same way as me!). It worked so well that when I went into Boots to look for a cream to rid me of the dark circles (I always think it's better to get rid of the problem that to cover it up in the long term), the Estee Lauder lady told me very nicely that I didn't have any dark circles! I could have hugged her right there!

This fantastic product is now available to buy in many more places than a few years ago and you can get hold of it in all major department stores as well as branches of Sephora. It retails at around £20-22 but luckily I bought mine for the bargain price of £11 on holiday in Spain so my advice is to grab one next time you're abroad! Superdrug also seem to have great sales on this product a lot, so grab one if you see it on offer! Alternatively, most make-up counter staff are more than willing to give you a free sample so take advantage!
