= MY THOUGHTS ON THE WEBSITE ==

I never even knew that this website existed until a day when I was extremely bored and I was searching the internet in hope of finding something interesting. This of course was long before I ever discovered the wonderful Dooyoo and Ciao websites. I have spent many hours on this and gotten quite a few laughs from it too. Some of the questions that I have seen on Yahoo Answers have obviously been asked purely for the fun of it but then! Then, there are also the types of questions that sound like ones that only a serial killer or a very creepy person would ask and I do worry that those sort of people live among us lol! I also have noticed with some of the genuine questions that the answer is so obvious that the you wonder how the person can not have known it. I will give a example below of one of the questions that I have just found on the list. I have also included the funny and not so funny answers that it received. I knew straight away (as most people with even a ounce of common sense would do) that this was a joke. Although some of the people who answered do seem to be taking it seriously. See, the thing about yahoo answers is that ironically it is probably in certain situations "the worst" place you could go if you actually want a answer. Why? Well, where do I begin? When someone has a medical problem they ask for peoples advice on this and half of the people have no idea what they are talking about. Infact some even give what I have observed to be quite risky or dangerous answers to people who should really be getting advice by doctors.

The other reason is that this site is full of people who are just there for the fun of it or to be jerks. If you actually want a decent answer to a question you can get it and pretty quickly too but you can be sure that in among it there will be a list of nonsense, useless answers as well. Sometimes you will get only one answer and it will be a crap one that has nothing to do with the question you have just asked. Something you see a lot on this is silly people posting up links with photos of themselves attached and asking to be rated or asking if they look good. This is something I dislike to see, I have seen so many of these questions on the answers list . There was one day when curiosity got the better of me and I clicked into one of their questions. I wanted to see how people answer to them and my suspicions were confirmed. I always thought that they would be bullied through this and that if they asked such questions. That there would be people who would leave nasty comments and I was right they do. I felt angry when I looked and saw some of the cruel answers that the guy had received because the people who answered were just going out of their way to be mean.

I have always thought that the saying "if you cant say something good say nothing at all" is a good one to go by but I also think that these people could save themselves the stick by not asking those type of questions in the first place. The internet is no place to look for approval and it is a wired up place at times. I think Yahoo Answers should have a way of stopping these questions being asked because I think the answers have potential to be harmful for some of the people who receive them.
I still think after reading the newspaper a while ago and reading about a town where lots of young people were committing suicide that things like this could well have been to blame. But, I would not for one second say that it is just Yahoo Answers because social networks and basically anything that allows for this to happen are just as bad.

If you can take the light hearted approach with this site it can be a very fun one to use. There is a limit of questions that you can ask each day and I was rather unimpressed with that because I had just joined at the time. I was sending out question after question and I was enjoying getting lots of answers pinged back. I think it was when I got to my ninth or tenth question that it said I had reached the limit for that day and I couldn't send anymore. I believe it would be better if there was no limit. This is a great site if you have spare time and I find when I use it that I only intend to look at a few questions and end up there hours. Sometimes you will notice that people have not paid even the slightest bit of attention to the question that they are answering. I just saw one were a vegetarian was asking for good fillings for a baked potato and lots of non-vegetarians answered bacon, prawns and tuna lol! Having just laughed hysterically at the thought of that (I am easily amused lol!) I just realized why I like this website so much.

A QUESTION ON YAHOO ANSWERS

Why did my girlfriend get so upset that I had sex with her twin? I mean they look a like and her sister sure knew what to do. So, I figured those little details wouldnt matter. Its not like I was saying a big F you and sleeping with someone hotter!

* Answer 9 - I know you think you're going to get away with this excuse by trying to convince me that you thought my younger sister was my twin...and while i appreciate the attempt at flattery, everyone this side of the mississippi knows that my sister was the gymnast, not me. You should have known that i would be upset that you slept with someone who can do that little trick with her ankles behind her ears that you have always wanted. and please, don't try and convince me that you thought it was me...you know my blonde streaks are so much more natural than that ******'s. especially the ones i had done to the carpet.

DESIGN

Yahoo Answers is a nicely designed site and it is very easy to find your way around it. The colouring scheme used is mainly green, white, purple and black. At the top of the page you will see three clickable options. These are Ask, Answer and Discover. You can use an avatar or alternatively a picture of yourself. The avatar can be something random that you choose or you can use Yahoo Answers to make one.

THE ANSWERS SECTION

This is the part that you go to if you want to answer peoples questions. There is all types of topics here. I think there is good and bad things about this section. Sometimes the bad things can be the good things and vice versa. One example of this is the silly answers.These can be good if you are looking at a question and you see them because they make you laugh. But then if it is your question and all you have is a stupid answer that "in no way" relates to what you asked then it can be irritating. I have found that the answers really can be of help to some people. That is regardless of whether their question is about something that you would consider to be off great importance or one you might think to be not . The sections available are all listed below. When you answer the questions you can also earn points. If you give the best answer you get ten points. you automatically get 2 points for every one that you answer and you get 1 point if someone votes for your answer. There is many who get irritated by the fact that they give their best answer and the asker never picks the best one. That meaning that they do not get the points they wanted for their efforts. You also get the option of viewing the questions all English or US only.

THE ASK SECTION

This is the section that you can use if you want to ask a question yourself. To do this you just click in to it and you will see two parts. One says what do you want to ask? And the other gives you the option of adding more information. Once you have decided on your question just click continue. I found one thing yesterday disguised as a question and when I clicked in it was actually some moonbeam ranting about the devil. Lol!

THE DISCOVER SECTION

This section is titled the world at your fingertips and it is full of answers to things you may want to know. In this part the questions are already resolved and you can use it to learn new things. This is not one I use very often because I prefer to use the answers and questions sections instead.

ANSWERS BLOG

In this part of the website you will find that there is a blog for every single country. Ordinarily I like blogs but I have to say I really do not find this one to be very interesting but that is just me. The topic at the minute is "ask Mike" and Mike is discussing Duct Tape. He speaks of his uses for it and his search for the person who invented it. I found this - (Duct Tape is the Force: It’s light on one side, dark on the other, and it binds the galaxy together) to be the most amusing thing on it and it was written in the comment section by someone who then went on to say "I have extensive knowledge of the force."

YOUR YAHOO ANSWERS PROFILE

When you are on your profile you will see your stats in the "my stats" section. These show two bars one is for your best answers and the other for your usual ones. These grow in length and percentage as you answer more questions. There is also a option to invite people to your network and you will have a "activity summary." In your activity summary you will see a round up of your total points, points for that week and how many points you will require until you reach the next level. You will be able to see the exact number of questions you have asked and answered as well. Near to the bottom of the page there is four options these are - my answers, my questions, my starred questions and my watchlist. Your watchlist works similar to watching a item on eBay. The only difference being that you are watching a question and the answers that it receives instead. You can also view your contacts, blocked contacts and fans here too.

SIGN UP

Signing up to this site is very straightforward and not unlike most other websites. All you need to do is enter your usual details, name, address, country, postcode etc and create your own yahoo ID. This can be anything followed by either yahoo.com, ymail.com or rocketmail.com.

CONCLUSION

This is a brilliant website if used properly it can be amusing and educational as well because you can learn new things. I like that you can help others with your answers and that is more incentive for me to use it. I do recommend this website and I think that due to its huge amount of category's that you can answer or ask about. That there will be something for everyone! I am giving it four stars I removed one because I have seen a few things on it that I do not like and too many people break the rules of the site. Although, saying that there rules are very clear and easy to understand. So it is more a problem of the particular users of the site than yahoo answers itself.
