Advantages: quality low noise reliabilty power appearance amazing clarity high end performance Disadvantages: none for a classic amp
Its an amp that changes the face of your listening entirely if you have been using lesser equipment..no matter what it cost.
The AX 500 makes a high fidelity sound way above its considerable cost when released by yamaha..and puts all of its contemporaries in the shade.
Its an imposing box, though like all of the natural sound range pulls that off with elegance. The sleek lines are very dark hi-fi and blends in nicely anywhere. Its hansome, heavyweight and shakes the foundations.
How yamaha achieve such cleaness of sound, musicality and such fabulous signal to noise ratio is said to be down to the sheer precision of thier manufacturing. Their products are incredibly long lived delivering all of the original performance. They achieve this with hi-fi, much of which is now getting on over 60 years old and has cult collectable status ...

Advantages: Pleasantly open and musical. Disadvantages: No remote control. More knobs than you need.
on the front panel for £29.99. How could I resist. A YamahaAX-430. Couldn't lose could I ?
This old 50(ish) watter probably dates from the late 80's. There are quite a few kicking around on the secondhand market. It's reasonably built with smart black satin finished metal front and a number of knobs including variable "Loudness" and a CD Direct button. On the back are good quality 4mm speaker terminals for two pairs of speakers (switchable).
Variable Loudness alters the tonal response with respect to level. The CD Direct button cuts out the tone and balance controls to the CD input only and definitely improves the sound quality. A shame it doesn't do the same on the other inputs.
After connecting it into the rest of my system at home I found it to be very pleasant and competent sounding and better than would be expected from the usual ...

Advantages: Easy to use and very loud Disadvantages: does not have Digital or optical inputs
a distortion free signal to your speakers. This will handle high ranges of digital sources of music.
High Dynamic power & Low impedance Drive, is designed to make your amplifier handle the extreme power smoothly, virtually with any speaker load with no strain
However In the technical side of things,
YamahaAX 500 Specifications
85w per channel @ 8 Ohms x4 as is a Quad Amplifier
so total power on 4 speakers is 340w & 8Ohms all in.
Hands down I had a pioneer 500w amplifier and my YamahaAX 500 really made my pioneer sound like a cheap pathetic portable cd player that was as useful as a chocolate fireguard.
So what I am saying is the YamahaAX 500 has much more than what meets the eye well and truly.
Overall rating is 10/10 for people in love with high quality music especially loud and clear. ...
