Advantages: quality low noise reliabilty power appearance amazing clarity high end performance Disadvantages: none for a classic amp
...Its an amp that changes the face of your listening entirely if you have been using lesser equipment..no matter what it cost.
The AX 500 makes a high fidelity sound way above its considerable cost when released by yamaha..and puts all of its contemporaries in the shade.
Its an imposing box, though like all of the natural sound range pulls that off with elegance. The sleek lines are very dark hi-fi and blends in nicely anywhere. Its hansome, heavyweight and shakes the foundations.
How yamaha achieve such cleaness of sound, musicality and such fabulous signal to noise ratio is said to be down to the sheer precision of thier manufacturing. Their products are incredibly long lived delivering all of the original performance. They achieve this with hi-fi, much of which is now getting on over 60 years old and has cult collectable status...

Advantages: Easy to use and very loud Disadvantages: does not have Digital or optical inputs
...Hi there I am glad to say that I am a proud owner of the YamahaAX500/u Amplifier. Mine has been in storage nearly all of its life as it was hardly used by my friend so I bought it 6 months ago. And it really looks like it just came from the shop. Probably best condition one I ever seen. Well to get straight to the point. The YamahaAX 500 is an amplifier that is made for Extreme Clarity and loudness for music; I would not recommend this amplifier for watching films everyday as i say it would be a waste of Amplifier , Although it may still sound clear this amp does not have the features to make your home cinema effect. But I will guarantee that once you heard this mean machine it will be music to your ears in the sweetest way.
Features: ALA (Absolute Linear Amplification) is circuitry that gives high end sound and gives you...

Advantages: Value for money. Sound quality Disadvantages: Fiddly to set up. Spaghetti! No dedicated digital input for a CD player.
...I have recently taken delivery of a Yamaha RX-V596RDS Home Cinema receiver through Letsbuyit.com for £259 (list approx £400) – but that’s another story, see my opinion on Letsbuyit.com!
The receiver is almost the same as the Yamaha DSP-A5 amplifier, with the addition of an AM/FM RDS tuner capable of remembering 40 pre-set stations. Hi-fi purists may frown upon receivers, preferring to buy separate tuners and amps but they haven’t seen the state of my hi-fi rack!
What else do you get for your money?
5 channels of 75 watts power each, plus a pre-amp output for a sub-woofer.
Twin Dolby Digital/DTS decoders built in, capable of handling both optical and co-axial digital input from a DVD player. It will also handle digital stereo from a set-top box like my ONDigital Nokia through the co-axial input. The rear...
