Advantages Grand Piano Voice sounds identical to real thing, 100's of extra voices, Multi-track recording
Disadvantages Quite heavy, Quite an investment (but worth every penny)
The YAMAHA CP300 is one of the most highly respected and most sought after piano's available and as a musician and performer I cannot stress the amazing quality of this piano.
The piano is a solid investment. It is well built and looks great. Like almost every keyboard it comes with additional voices which sound good, but this pianos forte lies in it Grand Piano setting. Before I purchased this piano I had heard it on stage a few times and was amazed at how realistic the piano voice sounds. I found it almost impossible to detect whether I was listening to a stage piano or the real thing. Post-purchase my hopes were confirmed. In my opinion it is certainly the best stage piano on the market. When you play a note with the grand piano voice activated you can even detect the non-existent hammers hitting non-existent strings. The keys of the piano are weighted and so feel almost identical to a real piano underhand. Some of the other features of the piano include the capability to record your playing in multiple tracks which, while it is not as detailed as some music editing software, is very handy especially if you are a composer. The additional voices come in many 'flavours' covering every class of instrument from percussion to synths. The piano has full MIDI capabilities which means it is an excellent piano for recording to music software. Some of the downsides to a machine of this standard is that it is (due to the amount of features they have stuffed into it) quite heavy so if you were looking to perform somewhere it could prove quite difficult to move. I played £1600 for this piano and it was worth every penny for me. The other thing to take into account is that if you buy a piano like this and want to move it about you would be wise to invest in a sturdy flight for transportation which, if it is good quality, would bring the price closer to the £2k mark. Top Quality as always from those clever cats at YAMAHA!
