... The bike rides well, Yamaha usually produce good, smooth suspension and this bike is no exception. Despite having a slightly stiff frame the bike does handle very well. I bought a DT on a 54 plate a few weeks back, at the time I had a broken leg which wasn't too bad as I spent the time cleaning filters, changing oil, plugs etc. and generally cleaning the thing up. Now my legs better I've had a chance to go out on the bike, my first impression was very good.
The bike came with a DEP silencer and standard chamber, which I am looking to replace, when low revving the bike sounds deep and the torque is pretty impressive. The top end is also there, I don't really like to ride bikes to the red line every time I get on them but the DT will happily do 70mph and seeing as I live in a rural area that's good enough for me. However, if the bike was pushed I could see it reaching 80.
The bike rides well, Yamaha usually produce good, smooth suspension and this bike is no exception. Despite having a slightly stiff frame the bike does handle very well. Brakes are alright, nothing amazing, but that's to be expected on a stock 125 - they do the job!
Lights are good, not blinding but I happily ride the bike at night. I feel that I should point out the lack of rev counter and kick start; this makes no difference to me at all but could affect potential buyers. As for brake horse I'd say like 15? Not really sure but it's enough to do what I want. I've seen reviews saying people think the bike could compete in motocross, I really don't. Although the power is pretty impressive for a 125, it's built for the road not track; any CR will eat it up.
Another positive point is how easy parts are to get, as Yamaha are one of the big companies there parts are pretty cheap. Fixing most things on a 2stroke is relatively easy but the DT is very open which saves time and effort.
Overall feelings on the bike are very good, easily has enough power to keep with cars on main roads, very comfortable and good ride, impressive economy and finally, in my opinion, the bike looks good! Much better than those tacky superbike impressions that everyone has. DT125 - highly recommended to all.

Good all rounder
Review of Yamaha DT125 by johnybravo

Advantages: Cheap to buy and to run. Nothing to go wrong
Disadvantages: None that I can report

This is a great bike for beginners. I was a bit frightened of getting on a motorbike at first so after being recommended this vehicle, I bought one second-hand. The bike was in good condition and was a very comfortable ride. Offroad, it performs equally well. It's a very reliable machine and runs forever. When I gained confidence in it, I put it through it's paces at an offroad local bikers meeting ground and it performed very well. Think the only ... Read review

Born again biker
Review of Yamaha DT125 by Edmund-Blackadder

Advantages: That off road on road look
Disadvantages: Probably the most nickable 125 out there

I passed my 33bhp test a while ago on a DTR, had a good look around for a bike to suit me. I'm still looking. The DTR is perfect for taller people. I'm 6 foot and it's perfect size, 5' 9'' and below and you're be looking to lower the suspension. The insurance is very low (on saying that I'm waiting on my new premium, cos I've had two DTR's pinched in the last 8 months). The ride is good except the seat could do with another layer of lining in it ...
...good on breaking, and because you sit up on it, you see a lot more of what's happening in front of you. Fuel consumption is fair, I get 120 miles out of a tank and roughly cost £6.50 to fill. Now I've passed my test the old exhaust has gone, Mr DEP has arrived and Mr Powervalve has been tweaked. I get about 20mph more speed out of it, and it certainly get's me there a lot quicker, and the sound. At 8000rpm on exceleration it turns a few heads. ... Read review

Under 21- Get a DT125
Review of Yamaha DT125 by Bikerchick28

Advantages: Its under 33bhp looks good and IS good for a 125
Disadvantages: Not a superbike

I got a DT125 when I turned 17 (big step up from my DT50) and fell in love with it immediately. My little brother now owns it as the whole family were so happy with it. Why did I love my DT125? This bike looks great!! My family and friends do a lot of scrambling/moto-cross, and the DT looks great next to all the off road bikes (mainly cause I kept it clean!!). It is a bike to be proud of and lets face it, there aren't many under 21yr olds that ...
...experienced absolutely no problems in the whole one and a half years I ran the bike and my brother has had no problems since (he's had it nearly three years). This bike isn't for short people as its quite high off the ground but it is very useful for doing short journeys at low cost (both insurance and road tax are ridiculously low). I would reccommend to any U21's wanting to up their street cred while driving a reliable, easy to handle machine. ... Read review

My First Bike
Review of Yamaha DT125 by DTUK

Advantages: Quick, Cheap to run, looks smart and is very comfortable.
Disadvantages: Sounds like a bee in a jam jar

I picked up a DT125R having read many reviews and have to say I am very pleased with it, its very nippy especially at 0-40mph. Though I suggest if you ant gonna go off-road get some road tyres as I plan to do, much better for the wet, those nobbly tyres are pretty dangerous in wet conditions. For a First bike its great, great fun to just zip to work and off course its extrememly cheap to run but not as cheap as 4stroke but proformance is much better. ... Read review

TDR125 - the fun bike
Review of Yamaha TDR125 by  tomsmith500

Advantages: lots of fun to ride, great handling, funky looks
Disadvantages: slow, requires lots of modifications to get the best performance (but it's worth it!)

...I'll be honest here, I bought this bike on its looks alone. I saw it in the dealers and it made me smile. There's just no other bike that has the TDR's looks! The TDR shares many components with Yamaha's other 2 stroke 125's: the DT dirtbike and the TZR race replica. The engine and gearing are exactly the same as the DT - a watercooled 2 stroke with crankcase reed valve induction. The TDR accelerates quickly like a dirt bike but doesn't have a very high top end. The frame is the super stiff steel deltabox variety and this combined with the suspension and wheels makes for great handling. The frame is so stiff it could easily handle an engine kicking out 2 or 3 times the power of the TDR's. The seat is high up off the ground, again similar to the DT. The wheels sizes are 18" front and 17" rear. If you are under 5"7 you might want to... Read review
