~Features~ -------------
Hi. It's been great so far too help people and share information I am going to try another bike review now! I am sure you have noticed that motorcycling is on the way up due to the congestion charge on cars!? Living in London England means there are plenty reason to go motorcycling choices as well I can get around faster and easier than any other form of transport even the tube. One noticed that motorcycle parking is free as well. So a better way to travel around town not possible. I was lucky to have a Yamaha FJ1200to use some twenty years ago now. I know you must be wondering why that and not another. Anyway, I decided the bigger the the bike the better
The Yamaha FJ1200is an aircooled four cylinder machine the most powerful of all the machines that Yamaha maked it had some interesting features and was not the most fasionable end of the market for riders it was a good choice for me a good looking machine.
~The Look~ -------------
It's has a red and white plastic fairing and metal body with black controls with black buttons on the handlebars and blue display screen on the instrument panel. I liked that clearly. It's got many buttons on the front of the handle bars on-off switch, stop clutch/brake leavers, speedo, revcounter etc.
The seat is a black with silver inserts with the flexibility of extra features that the machine itself does not have a kick starter. It's also got locking fuel tank, alloy wheels, helmet lock, indicators, rear seat foot pegs. This is very useful you have added passenger getting free travel. It can be crunch but it is a good and must be good for two people can go to work on it in all.
~Weight~ -------------
As for the weight it is going to be a concern for many. The weight comes in at over 500lbs, and is not so light anyone can move it. It could be pushed with great difficulty and can not be picked up should it fall over anybody but the strongest.~Price~ -------------
About the price it is bought for £2500 twenty years ago times thee price by three to get todays value. That is the price for a new one. It is not possible to buy a new one now or to pay more than much more than £3000 on e bay.
~Ease of Use~ -------------
It's has a very simple to use. That's a good point but twenty years ago there were no speed cameras. So it was easy to drive as fast as one liked. It had a light easy gear change and plenty of around town power meant it was a very easy machine to use. It has a 4 stroke engine oil which is toped up with a small opening on the enging. It does not use much petrol at 40mpg it is good it will easily do 140mph. The motor is not even trying at 70 mph due to government laws. It is most powerful at a claimed 128hp @ 9000 revolutions per minute when flat out. It has also 85 ft lbs of torque at 5000rpm.
Another point is the easefullness of accelerating. The seat islarge and comfortable for most people.~Consumable~ -------------
As it was highly economic to buy then. The fact is I have used it for 26000 miles it lasted me this time with clutch slip all the time. As the motor is without any restricted engine it has worn out needing a total rebuild. It has done 26K miles at great expense to me in petrol and a service at 3K miles it cost £70 so x it by 3
~Durability~ -------------
It was not highly durable for me although it is for most. I would put this down to my riding style flat out every where and the fact the engine overheated so as to make my petrol tank very hot driving around Central London all day. I was told after 26000 miles that the engine had overheated badly and needed a rebuild. Tyres last 3000 miles also at £60 each now x that by 3.~Advantages~ -------------
It is a quality product and features are excellent for my mad needs 'WOW' factor was the acceleration 0-100 in 6.5 seconds. A sound and robust machine it has a 'WOW' factor in its top speeed of 163mph. I can recommend the extra feature of a rear top box and carrier by Givi. It is clear and that this machine is a bright addition to any drive way. To ride and rev it is a joy. So handy, so useful I can play on it as well as use it as a street racing machine I pass a Police range Rover at 150 mph they could do nothing. So I am not at all able to complain about anything. It's is then not highly durable or economic to use. I do know it is made Japan so it has a very good reputation for quality if driven at legal speeds.
~Disadvantages~ -------------
As it over heated around town it is for motorways or long distance riding! Big and heavy is ok if you are big and heavy other wise it will be a handful.
~Overall~ -------------
160 mph and 40mpg 0-100 in 6.5 seconds it is a good product to be of interest to serious long distance tourers and those wanting a big machine. It was excellent at what it did and is recommended by me. Look on ebay for models. I got mine from Flitwick motorcycles in Bedfordshire who offered excellent service.
Advantages: Good sturdy bike Disadvantages: If you're loaded with luggage it gets hairy!
I previously owned an FJ12 for about 2 years which I bought froma friend of mine who had left it sitting for 3/4 years outside a friends house because he couldn't handle it anymore due to back problems. It took a bit of work to get it up to scratch, new rear shock/damper, new tyres as the old ones had gone all hard and cracked, new chain/sprockets/cush drive rubbers and a few other things. The bike also came with a full Krauser pannier system which ... ...a lot of bike rallies throughout the year and this meant that we could carry more luggage!
The FJ handles quite well for such a large bike and has a very well planted centre of gravity. Being a girlie on a big bike was interesting, especially when I dropped it after stalling when pulling out of a road, but it was comforting when a guy came over to help me pick it up and found it just as heavy to lift
too! The FJ has a comfortable riding position ...

accidents it is that simple.
Top speed I have attained 162 on a YamahaFJ1200 drove from Marlborough in Wilts to Toddington in Beds in 1 hour including at crawl through Slough for petrol that is 100 miles in one hour. In a car I have had 137 mph on the speedometer of a Vauxhall Senator. As these were speedometer figures 10% can be taken off. Having accident at high speed was impossible for me my reactions were razor sharp.
Young drivers do not need speed restriction they need high speed driving at in high powered cars so they can handle what ever they have to drive.
I realise that the above statement is a generalisation, and that some young drivers are very capable drivers and safer than many of the older generation. There is NOTHING lethal about high powered cars in the hands of a young man look at F1 today all the oldies are gone ...
