Yamaha have produced some great keyboards over the years, that have given the buyers endless hours of pleasure and entertainment, not to mention those who want to just listen. They are definitely my personal preference as the sound reproduction is much more like the real thing, IE; Piano, Violin, Pipe Organ and so on.
The model I use and have done for about 5 years is the PSR5700. Although it's quite old now the features are more than enough, and even meet the needs of on stage use easily.
As with all the Yamaha range it comes with a good selection of preset voices, in fact this one has 99, but there are actually more because you can retune each
instrument individually and save the sounds in yet another bank of 99. And again on top of that you have the standard midi voice bank along with effects like the pitch and modulator wheels, so all together there's enough for just about any type of music.
Aside from the voice banks the 5700 is equipped with a built in floppy drive for read and write use that enables the use of prerecorded midi discs or even discs copied from PC midi software. It can even load in a variety of extra voices, drum sequences and orchestrated patterns obtainable from Yamaha.
One of the other many features is the built in 8 track midi sequencer, you don't need software or a computer with this. It is a fully functional track editor allowing the movement of tracks or even part tracks thus enabling 16, 32, 64 track equivalent.
Still along the lines of features, it has an orchestrated single finger - bass and standard chord player that accompanies you with a multiple choice of rhythms and patterns to choose from or modify, and even has a solo part that you can work into songs.
This great 61 polyphonic key,
keyboard has all of the above and more, and with it's superior 30 watt per channel stereo speaker system, gives a mega superior sound even without an external amp.
Finally the outputs and inputs are: Foot switch, Midi In/Out/Through, Bass, Effect, Headphone and standard output/input. It pretty much covers all basic requirements and comes with 2 very informative manuals, standard & advanced, and even after 5 years I'm still finding out new stuff. The menu's and adjustable bits and bobs are endless.
