We brought our children a Quad bike but my son then 3 got very bored of it very quickly so we decided that a small motor bike would be better. So we started to look around for a second hand PW50 no chance you never see then so we brought one new and it cost us £800. The motorbike shop did a quick service on it and we loaded it into the back of our Astra and off we went home. My husband tryed the bike first and decided that if our son was going to ride it he would need protective clothing so off we went to a local motor bike shop and brought a crash helmet, body armer, gloves,
knee pads and boots costing us another £200 but well worth the money. These items are a must for any child going to ride a motor bike.
The first outing for my 3 year old was great we had restricted the bike so that it only went about 5mph (this bike has a top speed of about 30mph) and although he had only been riding a bike without stabalisers for about 2 months he took to it like a duck to water. In fact he fell off within the first hour because he had unscrewed the restrictor a little bit so that he could go about 10mph and he thought it was great to do doughnuts on a shingle surface this is where the protective clothing comes in he got up dusted himself down got back on the bike and started doing the doughnuts all over again (no fear).
Within a month he was going full pelt on his motor bike and wanted to take it every where which we can do because if fits easly into my hatch back car.
By the age of 4 he had started to be far more daring than I liked doing jumps, racing around courses as fast as he could and even started to do tricks such as starding on the seat and turning him self round while travelling at around 30mph.
He is now 6 so it has been handed down to my younger son who is 4 however he is not quite so daring thankgod.
Engine type: Air cooled 2-stroke, petrol, torque ijnduction Cylinder arrangement: Single cylinder, forward inclined Starting system: Kick starter
Engine oil:
Oil tank capacity: 0.3L (0.26imp qt, 0.32 US qy) Oil grade: Yamalube 2-S or Yamaha oil 2T or air cooler 2-S engine oil
Air filter: Wet type element
Feul:
Type: Regular unleaded petrol Tank compacity: 2.0L (0.44Imp gal)
If you fill the tank to full it will last for ages around 15hrs riding time also this bike almost uses no oil at all.
A PW50 is very easy to keep my husband takes it apart about once every 6 months to clean it all out and he knew nothing about motorbikes before we got this one and I send it into our local motor bike shop for a service once a year costing around £55.
Even I love riding this bike although I do think that it is a bit fast for my children (over protective mother thing). All of my 3 children ride this bike and have never hurt themselves because we are very hot on the fact that if they do not wear the protective clothing they can't ride.
I know that you can buy cheaper imports of this style of bike however I would advise buying a british model my sister has a foriegn import and has no end of problems with it and cant always get the parts she needs for a basic at home service. This bike is well worth the money we have had our moneys worth 5 times over in the past 2 and a half years. Also these PW50 hold their value and I would have no problem selling it for £650 however I think that I shall keep it for my grandkids.
This bike takes up no more room that a normal cycle so we store it indoors to ensure that it does not get stolen, however if you wanted to keep it outside I would sugest that it is kept in a shed and fixed to the floor with a very heavey duty chain. To do this you need to concrete an anchor into the floor, I would also sugest that you place a tarp over the top or black out the windows of the shed as these bikes will get stolen if you are not careful. Make sure that it is listed on your house contents insurance just in case.
If you decide to buy one I now that you and your family will have hours of fun on this bike.

an interesting review, part of me is thinking what a responsible mum you are as you'll never need to worry when they are 16 and on the road because it won't be a novelty so they should be safer - part of me is thinking s**t I'd never let my kids have one (mind you both little girls so prob wouldn't want one) and part of me is thinking, huh, all we ever had was dinky toys! M xx
