YAMAHA FS1-E MOPED

Advantages: Cheap to run, a good investment, friendly owners community, fun
Disadvantages: slow, expensive and scarce parts

The Yamaha FS1-E, or more commonly known as a "fizzy" was the must have moped for 16 year olds from it's UK introduction in 1972 to the late 70's, when in 1978 the government introduced new legislation to restrict the maximum speed of moped to 30mph. I include myself in that category and was the proud owner of 2 fizzy's at the time. It had the best styling compared to Honda, Suzuki, Gileras etc and was by far the most reliable. The Yamaha FS1-E has a 49cc single cylinder 2-stroke air cooled rotary valved engine with a four-speed gearbox. It originally was only available in on colour, Candy Gold, and this was know as the SS model. The SS stood for "Sixteener Special". In 1974 a second colour was introduced, Popsicle Purple and the model name on the side panel was changed to the now infamous "FS1-E". The model was FS1 and the suffix ...

Advantages: Super smooth, quiet, positive steering, fantastic acceleration and brilliant brakes

Bought to replace'96 740i V8 petrol. Better acceleration to 60 (100km) better fuelconsumption. All round comfort and gadgets keep one occupied but the telephone bluetooth system need some getting used to and so does the voice control. Tedious to program the sat nav as cannot be done off the car and must be entered manually which could be a days work???. TV is a nice gadget but seldom works as it should and the picture is really total crap. CD system is acceptable but I feel there are a few nook and crannies missing on the E65. The money holder in the dash on the E38 was handy now it's hidden in the centre glove box which also houses the bluetooth phone cradle and a spare CD cassette if needed which leaves little space for other items. Chest of drawers in the cented of the dash is novel but by removing the BRICK OEM phone surley ...

The Yamaha Blaster - The small contender

Advantages: Lightweight, powerful 200cc two-stroke motor, proven over time
Disadvantages: Wheel base and width cause instability in some situations.

The Yamaha Blaster is a legend in its own right. It has been in production for many a year now and has sold in large numbers worldwide. Its success has mainly been down to the large spread of potential buyers that it caters for. Although its main target is the rookie rider, it has sufficient power to thrill most users while providing good value for money and great reliability. I have had my Blaster now for 7 years and had very few mechanical issues with her. Of course i have had to change tyres and top up fuel and oil levels when needed. I do as a matter of good maintenance, keep the chain and other moving parts oiled and greased, but this level of maintenance is expected on all such machines. I have recently rebuilt the top-end of my blaster engine and was very pleased to see that the condition of most of the internal waer parts was ...
