The device is standard size, not too heavy and nicely designed with clean and simple layout. The buttons are clear and nicely sized, the labels are a bit hard to read on the black surface when sun or other bright light is shining on the device. The display on the front is orange colored, has adjustable brightness and is easy to read even across the room.
The remote is small and light, even maybe too small because the buttons are somewhat cramped but after getting used to the layout it is quite usable. The sensitivity of the infrared receiver on the device is good, I can direct the remote in almost any direction and the device will always pick up a signal.
Supplied with the device were only the essentials - AM antenna (wire on plastic frame), FM antenna (about 1 meter long wire with a connector in the end), remote with batteries (I am still on my original set which shows no sign of dying yet by the way), manuals and other paperwork and nothing else.
Power cable is fixed to the device (a minor issue when it breaks or when a longer cable is needed), and there was some weird plastic plate with vent holes attached to the top of the device which after some research on the internet I removed (looks nicer this way too).
All connectors are on the rear side, except one set of audio-video RCA jacks, a 3.5mm jack for portable player and a 6.3mm headphone jack.
Connecting the device to other hardware I had (DVD player, TV and speakers) was very easy, setting up the device only required minimal referring to the manual.
One feature I like about the receiver is the Scenes. These are basically preset (and customizable) pairs of audio and video sources that let you switch between watching TV, listening to audio CD or radio with a push of one button.
The sound quality of the receiver is extremely good. I am using it with a pair of Wharfedale 3-way towers and it has enough punch in the music and movies to manage without a subwoofer. No extra sounds or noises are produced by the device, except the clicking of relays when you turn it on or off.
The device does not degrade the quality of the picture passed through it. Unfortunately it does not support HDMI, only composite, S-video and component video are available for input and output.
In conclusion: this is a very good receiver for someone on a budget. The device performs very well, has enough output power for almost any setting and has very good quality.
