Advantages: affordable, brilliant sound quality, DAB receiver Disadvantages: limited format playback
...If you are looking for an affordable stereo system that combines a CD player and DAB radio receiver then you should look no further than the Yamaha M-170. I have had the CRX M-170 model now in my living room for nearly 12 months and it is one of those purchases that will raise a smile when you look at it. Priced at £150 the system was cheaper than the DAB radio I had my eye on.
The whole system is slim and finished in a brushed steel to give it an edgy look that wouldn't look out of place in a million pound penthouse overlooking the Thames but the speakers are plain boring old black and are something of an embarrassment. Thankfully the 2 speakers are small enough to hide away behind chairs and plants.
The CD player can playback an assortment of files including CD, CD-R and CD-RW but can't play MP3 files recorded onto a CD, slightly...

Advantages: good value for money Disadvantages: doesn't serve popcorn
...The Yamaha DSP-A5, is probably slightly outdated now, but it did in an award form ‘what hifi’ magazine.
This amplifier has all the great features you would want for using as a home cinema. To use this amp to its best you will need some good quality speakers. Two fronts, two rears, a centre and a sub woofer. Without these speakers there isn’t much point having the amplifier!! The price when I got the amp was £300. This at the time was really the better sort, but there are probably better ones now. I would recommend this amp for the very top end of a low budget; it cost now is probably around £250.
For the money you are spending you are getting loads of features, and a great sound. The amp is purely an amplifier, so unlike a receiver it doesn’t include a radio, but that’s no problem, a radio can...

Advantages: Sound quality, features, dab Disadvantages: Price
...not beleive the amount of bass. The DAB is fantastic as well as having fm as back up. Numerous alarm features, timers and mute button on the remote show this is a well thought out product. Incredibly easy to use and intuitive.
Now, whether to buy it. In the price range (£300 with speakers) there is alot of options especially the denon and yamaha. There is not much to tell them apart in my view. The one thing in this ones favour i think is the build quality and looks. Nothing huge, but i liike the blue display.
i am incredibly happy with my choice. It is has changed the way i hear songs in my head and my expcetations about sound quality. The only problem is there is a huge gap between the stereo in house and the stereo in my car. I gonna have to work on that one/...
