Like all 125's she has the tendency to struggle up hills, steep hills are a guarantee to be completed in at most 3rd gear, not exceeding much more than 30 mph. I can honestly say ... ...year. When I received a quote for tax, I will admit, I laughed. It cost £15 a year, in comparison to cars or even other bikes that are not 125's this is incredible.

I currently ride a Yamaha YBR125 and I can assure you that they are brilliant. Particularly if you are new on the road. As the CBT licence allows the rider to ride anything up to a 125 motorbike this fits nicely into the "1st Motorbike" category.
Like all 125's she has the tendency to struggle up hills, steep hills are a guarantee to be completed in at most 3rd gear, not exceeding much more than 30 mph. I can honestly say this is the only criticism I have about it.
It's also good as a first bike due to the controlling of it. There is very little to fuss about, particularly as all modern bikes now have automatic lights that only switch between main beam and dipped. The indicators are in useful positioning , that are easily accessible and simple enough to switch off with no major distraction from the road.
The lights themselves are ideal (12V). This is fantastic opposed to the 6V lights that bikes were previously built with, that had the tendency to be useless leaving the rider desperately chasing cars to follow for the light.
Image-wise, like most Yamaha's, the YBR is very charismatic. The only image flaw is the thin size of the wheels. Although they do not really stand out as a terrible flaw. Its easily ignorable (I found this…I'm particularly attracted to larger tires, however I'm satisfied with the ones on the YBR).
Petrol wise, the costs and running distance are impressive. I personally live in the country, and my boyfriend is living an hour away (in another countryside area) and not only can I make numerous trips there without having to fill up for a while, my YBR seems to handle the rough countryside roads very well.
A motorbike in general is a fantastic investment. Not only are they so much cheaper to run than a car but they provide fun and they're obvious advantage of cutting queues (teehee). They do however have downsides, the rain really does spoil all the fun and you can only take one other person on the motorbike with you (providing you have a full bike licence - not just the CBT). However overall, if you are thinking of getting one, I highly recommend them, and if you are likely to be a fair-weather rider, they are cheap enough to run alongside the costs of a car.
My insurance (even for the young person I am, and taking into consideration I'm registered as a university student) is amazingly low, I'm currently paying £150 per year. When I received a quote for tax, I will admit, I laughed. It cost £15 a year, in comparison to cars or even other bikes that are not 125's this is incredible.
Overall, despite it'll minor flaws, I would recommend the Yamaha YBR125 to anyone.
Advantages: Low cost, 100+ mpg, good brakes, comfy seat, low insurance, £15 tax Disadvantages: Awkward choke, lack of side stand, you'll want to ride round on it all day
Let me start by saying that I've loved every minute on my YBR. I bought this bike when I could no longer afford to run my car and needed something to run around on to town and to work. Out of the 3 main dealers (honda, suzuki and yamaha), I found that the YBR offered the best package. Since all the bikes are very similar you have to see what each dealer can offer you at what price.
The YBR has a smooth 4 stroke engine that pulls happily all the ... ...their micro power bands. Also because it's a 4 stroke you get great fuel economy. I don't tend to care about driving economically yet can easily get 100 mpg and combined with the 12 litre tank this gives a good range bewteen fill ups. The only negative about the engine is the choke positioning, which is under the seat rather than on the bars, so it can be a little awkward to use. In winter aI just used to let my bike idle on the choke in my driveway ...

Advantages: Built for commuting with superlative fuel consuption. Disadvantages: annoying reflection at night on the instrument bezels from fuel guage light, road spray protection
I recently purchased this bike for £2,000 on the road. Included in the cost was free insurance supplied by Yamaha(UK) a years road fund , a tank of fuel and delivery by the dealer to my house. The alternative I did consider, the Honda cbf125, would have cost about £2,300 all in. Commuting really lets you get the best out of this bike. It's fast enough up to 50mph and will hold this speed along the flat without struggling. 4th and 5th gears are quite ... ...hills, a quick change into 4th will get things back on pace. I'm 5'10" tall and for me the sitting position is very upright providing a good view over the roof of the average car, and easily get both feet flat on the ground without problem. When stuck in heavy slow moving traffic there is always the option to paddle the bike along rather than be in and out of first gear all the time. The mirrors have quite short stems, so do take a lot of adjustment ...
Advantages: With current fuel prices, this bike will easily take me 200 miles on £6-7. Disadvantages: None.
...Personally I think that the Yamaha YBR 125cc is a very good looking and well designed bike, it is also quite a big bike, so it doesn't really look like a little 125, which is a good thing. Although this does not effect the performance. I have so far been 70mph on this bike, and it gets there quite fast. The good thing is that it doesn't sound like its going to explode after hitting 50mph, like most The Yamaha YBR 125cc is a very comfortable bike ... ...old moped.. incredible. The Yamaha YBR 125 is very good value for money, i purchased this bike for £2000 with free insurance and free RAC roadside cover. This bike has a rev counter, and a fuel gauge. It is also a fuel injection bike, which means it starts first time, every time, (which it definitely does) using the electric start, although it has a kick-start, just incase!. *Update, sorry i forgot to add that this bike is also good up hills, I can ...

Advantages: Endurance, ease of maintenance priceworthy 100% Disadvantages: Open chain, Lights
Since my previous review I clocked about 8000Km with my little grey mouse, driving through winter -10 C.
The bike holds just on the slow lane on the (Dutch) highways. Topspeed 100 Km/hr or as low as 85 with strong headwinds. As a real truck chaser it is more comfortable. With passenger not adviced, but always with a big Box and a little windscreen.
Winter is no problem, starting always on my handchoke ( carb type).Slippery roads too no problems, ... ...are worn for they are not not the best available-but wear resistant- and give some insecure ´feeling´at times
The only problem I had was with the front brake. After a too good cleaning, the next day the brake would not let loose, so I had to take it apart but no real damage was done.
Parts were limited to a broken tachocable and worn frontbrake pads (Total 40 euro genuine Yamaha) and cleaning out the winter dirt, and a better halogen replacement ...

Advantages: Runs on fresh air! An all round bargain! Disadvantages: Speed isn't great, but only as expected from a 125cc
I bought my YBR 125 from new in October 2008, downgrading from a fuel guzzling car for a more economical option. Woah! What an economical option! the tank is a 2 gallon which costs about £8-9 to fill from empty at present. The tank will last between 190-200 miles!! (80-100mpg!). You would expect there must be some downsides to this small cheap bike. Well there aren't really any. Speed? Well, yes, this is not a bike built for motorway use, however ... ...75 however this was downhill with a strong wind behind me! Common sense tells you that if you want to go fast don't buy a 125! Another downside is personal preferance really, but I do a lot of night riding and the full beam isn't all that full! Could do with being brighter as standard! gearbox is sweet as a nut, along with the rest of the bike. Mechanically sound with very high build quality as expected from Yamaha. I have now covered over 3000 miles ...
