Since my previous review I clocked about 8000Km with my little grey mouse, driving through winter -10 C.
The bike holds just on the slow lane on the (Dutch) highways. Topspeed 100 Km/hr or as low as 85 with strong headwinds. As a real truck chaser it is more comfortable. With passenger not adviced, but always with a big Box and a little windscreen.
Winter is no problem, starting always on my handchoke ( carb type).Slippery roads too no problems, but better tires will be fitted when the old rubbers are worn for they are not not the best available-but wear resistant- and give some insecure “feeling“at times
The only problem I had was with the front brake. After a too good cleaning, the next day the brake would not let loose, so I had to take it apart but no real damage was done.
Parts were limited to a broken tachocable and worn frontbrake pads (Total 40 euro genuine Yamaha) and cleaning out the winter dirt, and a better halogen replacement bulb (Ba20d-35/35W). A 45 watt is available and even an real Xenon for scooters will fitt. If you like it it“s about 90 Euro. Yes the original lighting van be much better. Valve clearance was checked in september and were on the tight side so adjusted to its specs, oil changed and bolts tightness checked for safety. beside that regular chain maintenance and adjustments.-Never overtighten chain tension!
Oilchange is more frequent then the scheme with Castrol RS 10/40. It“s too important. Don“t use a full synth but better change sooner with a normal good Q grade oil. There“s no oilfilter so change is the answer.
I only have it only once checked at the dealers for safety and oil change and chain-tension at around 1000 Km ( 80 euro), but decided I could do it myself in future cheaper I generally use the bike as commuter 90% and weekend trips over highways (10%)
WINTER: Muffs are highly recommended when freezing! They look ** but they work and are cheap and removable. Great for dry hands as well. Use grease and oils wherever they belong like cables, pivot parts etc. Chain is a daily concern with a little special supersticky grease. each morning. Clean your bike regulary! The little bike still uses 1:38 or better L / Km giving pure fun in return.
Drive safely and enjoy your ride
