Advantages: Design, fit, finish & sound excellent! Disadvantages: New lugs take a little getting used to.
...I bought my new Yamaha kit from Roli Garcia in Laredo, Texas. He's been my drum dealer now for about 6 years and offers great service before, during and after the sale. I first highly recommend you check him out, no matter what part of the country you are in. He's on ebay as "drumroom". Now on to the drums....NOUVEAU
My first choice through Roli was a DW Collectors series kit in a wrap finish. He told me when I went to plunk down the deposit that he was now a Yamaha dealer and that they had some great kits in stock. I told him I would go check out the newest Yamaha kit I could find at my local drum shop and do some comparisons -vs- the Collector Series from DW.
Price wise there is no real comparison with the Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute Nouveau kit in the same sizes coming in at about 30% less retail than the DW's. Yamaha...

Advantages: Great Tom Sound..Easy to tune Disadvantages: Bass Drums need a Front resonant head with a smaller port
...I first came into contact with Yamah recording custom drums when they were provided as backline equipment when my band was out of town.
I was very impressed with the tom sound that was very pure and resonant without any overtones. Its not often you can mike up drums without any dampning and still please the sound guy!!
Eventually i bought a second hand kit on Ebay which confirmed that the toms are very clean and clear.
The bass drum which is a 20x 16 on the other hand requires more work .I think the bass drum suffers with the Yamaha front resonant head with the large hole in the middle.I think when i replace this with another head with a small port the bass drum will have more depth
Overall these are great drums but the Bass drums need to be worked over to get them to the standard comprable to the toms which are arguably the best...

Advantages: As close to a piano as you can possibly get Disadvantages: Takes up a lot of space, extremely heavy
...I bought a Yamaha Clavinova CVP-87A in mint condition just 2 years ago from a well known music supplier, together with stool and original instruction manual and style disk.
This is truly a remarkable piece of instrumental equipment which would cost around £2,000-£3,000 to purchase, had it been a new model. I bought it for £900, but only because it was second hand to begin with, so I really feel as if I'd got myself a bargain.
I have heard that the Yamaha CVP Clavinova digital pianos are the most advanced digital pianos ever designed. A friend of mine who plays a lot better than I do, was really excited when I told him what I'd bought and couldn’t wait to try it out. He said that if you want a digital piano that has as true to life piano sound as a piano, with so many different instrument sounds, a floppy disk drive...

The Yamaha Stage custom is a very well built kit, which equally sounds and looks fantastic. To the advantage of the customer it ranges at a price a lot lower than your average Yamaha drum kit but still is of the original Yamaha quality.
