I have read numerous reviews extolling the virtues of Yankee candles but until recently had never splashed out on one, mainly due to the high price tag. However a few days ago I went into my local gift shop to buy a calendar and noticed that they were selling a range of Yankee candles at a reduced price. Feeling low after the excesses of Christmas. I decided to buy a couple of the samplers to try for myself. There were several fragrances on offer, mainly with a Christmas theme but I was drawn to one named baby power. The sampler had been reduced to just 86p, so was a bit of a bargain!
The sample candle is about 2 inches in height and has a decent sized wick. I also bought a couple of little mosaic jars for half price at the same time and these are ideal for burring the candles. The candle is pure white and smells very much like Johnson’s baby power; a scent I happen to love! I have used this candle to scent my bathroom whilst I enjoy a long soak in the bath and it is truly gorgeous! I was really surprised at how quickly the fragrance was released once the candle was lit. I would estimate that this candle has lasted for about 4 hours burning time – not bad for under £1!
I looked up the history of Yankee candles and according to their web site the company was founded back in 1969 when the then 17 year old, Mike Kittredge.had no money to buy his mother a Christmas present. He decided to melt down some wax crayons to make a candle. He then began to sell the candles to friends and 30 years later the business was so successful that it was publicity listed. Today the company has retail outlets all over the world selling over 150 fragrances.
I am really looking forward to trying out more of these delightful candles and would be happy to buy the baby power fragrance in the full size version, even with that £15 price tag!
