Yankee Candle Lemon lavender small jar – 3.7 ozThis was one of my Christmas gifts from my step son. I did quite well for both bath stuff and Yankee candles this year and so far I have only used a few of my gifts as we have been away for some time and so busy at others. However I have been enjoying this little scented candle in the jar for a week or so since we have returned home. As the house had been empty and not heated while we were away I was keen to get a bit of nice smell into the rooms so I chose some of my presents to burn to add a bit of welcome smell to our house again. It obviously worked as the donor of this candle walked in the other day and said ‘Smells nice in here.’ I said that it was his gift and that I really liked it so he was happy too. I do love lavender and have several plants in the garden which I strip of flowers and dry to put around the house. I have even been known to make lavender bags for drawers when feeling creative. This little jar is a lavender combined with lemon which I find makes for a more lemon than lavender scent but the lavender makes the lemon more mellow rather than sharp. This jar is glass but not as big and heavy as my large glass jar of Mulled wine candle. I still have to be very careful to keep it out of the reach of the grandchildren even when it isn’t lit as it would certainly break if dropped on our tiled floor. This one is small enough that if the children did pick iyt up they wouldn’t drop it because of its weight but I still keep them away from it ! It comes with a good glass stopper with plastic rims to stop the scent escaping when it isn’t in use. Yankee Candles the company originated in the USA. But have quickly become a household name over here in the UK.. They offer a huge range of home fragrance products from sprays, reed diffusers through to all kinds of shapes and
sizes of scented candles. They are often found in garden centres and gift shops so it is a case of keeping your eyes open. We do actually have a Yankee Candle shop in the Westfield Centre in Derby but I rarely go in there as I find them very expensive so tend to see if I can get bargains elsewhere. It is also worth noting that www.yankeedoodle.co.uk often has them at discounted prices if you want to order a few. Clintons Cards also often have special prices in specific scents which change from time to time so it is a good idea to pop in regularly to check. My candle jar was not wrapped at all and has a label on the front with the company name and the scent of the candle. The picture shows a basket of lemons with a bunch of lavender beside it. The candle itself shows through the glass and it a very pretty lavender colour. In order to use the candle you just open the lid and light the wick. I do find as the candle gets lower that I need to have a nice long match and a lighter is no use at all as it just burns my fingers as I tip it to get to the wick in the depths of the jar as it has quite a small neck. I do find that I have to regularly trim the wick because when it is too long the candle smokes and I once got a nasty black mark on the wall and ceiling above where the mulled wine candle was burning. It wiped off easily with some cleaning spray but was a bit annoying so I have been more diligent since. The other thing I have discovered it that when you blow out the candle you cannot put the lid on straight away as the smoke makes the glass go black and smutty which is not attractive. Even when I don’t put the lid on after burning the glass sometimes gets black looking so I wait till the candle has cooled then use a damp cloth to clean it.
