Yankee Candle reed diffuser – Spiced Pumpkin
I do really like my house to smell nice and as I was so thrilled with my other two Yankee candle reed diffusers I decided that I would go and see if my Bargain shop had any more. I love Yankee candles but they are rather expensive and so I have to wait for presents to get these usually. Luckily in the bargain store where they sell end of lines and out of date products I saw more Yankee Candle Reed Diffusers this time even better value at £4 each. They are the authentic item but the older model. The jar is a plainer older style but I was thrilled to bits to find these and bought two more. One flavor was this one, ‘Spiced Pumpkin' and the other was ‘Evening Air’ which I shall be reviewing at a later date.

The ‘Spiced Pumpkin’ scented one I put in the kitchen as I thought that was an appropriate smell for that room. The kitchen door we keep shut at night to stop the cats sitting on the table or on the kitchen sides and when we go down in the morning it always smells a bit of last night’s evening meal and just a bit stale. When I first put the reed diffuser there we kept smelling the lovely sweet spiced pumpkin smell wafting through to the next room. It smelled like I had been baking spiced muffins or pumpkin pie. It smelled lovely even with the windows open.
The kit comes in a cardboard outer with plastic inner package. You get a decorative glass bottle filled with fragranced oil sealed with a lid, ten wooden sticks or ‘reeds’ and a silver lid with a hole for use with the reeds to allow the fragrance to permeate the air in the room.
The directions for use are pretty obvious. You take off the black lid and put on the loose silver cap and poke the reeds into the bottle through this silver lid with the hole. Keep the whole thing upright and put it somewhere where it won’t get knocked over by pets, children or anything else. Allow 24 hours for the fragrance to reach full levels but you can hurry it along by turning the reeds upside down so the wet part is up. You can do this at any time to refresh the scent if you feel it needs it.
I followed this complicated process and put the bottle on the kitchen side near a window that does not open in the corner where it does not get in the way of normal kitchen activities .This was about two days ago so I felt that gave it a good chance to get going. I can hear you asking ; Does it still smell musty in the morning or does it smell like you have been baking through the night?
Well I think it smells better, not overwhelming at all. I do open the windows on the other side in this lovely weather have been enjoying but still this subtle sweet pumpkin pie smell wafts across the room. Even my husband has commented on how nice it smells and he isn’t one to comment usually. The nice thing is that it smells natural and as though I have been busy in the kitchen. I’m not sure I’d want the smell in my bedroom or bathroom as to me it is very much a food sort of smell but that might just be me.
I had a look on the Yankee candle website to see what the scent is made up of and didn’t find much at all except to see that my reed diffuser should have cost £11.99 which makes me feel very pleased with my bargain.
I can really smell the warm comforting wintery smells of spices , my husband says it smells like Christmas puddings cooking and he should know what they smell like as he makes at least six each year for relatives and friends. It is sweet, mildly wintery, nutmeg, slightly cinnamon type of smell but quite a subtle blend not at all synthetic. The oil is not watery at all so will not evaporate quickly and lose the smell quality. According to the company jargon the oil will keep its fragrance from day one till it is empty which I hope is true as it will be really good value then.
You can buy refill oils and put them in your choice of bottle or container. The containers they are selling now are much more decorative than the one I have which is quite plain in comparison but the smell is the same and that was the important thing for me. You can also buy new reeds but they seem to be just wooden sticks like kebab sticks so I suspect you could use some of those instead ( not ones that have been used for kebabs first as that might affect the smell!) . It does say that the refill bottle is NOT designed or intended to be used as a diffuser but I am not sure why.
I really like this smell as it is warm and cosy and comforting and it fits well in my kitchen. It is really natural and I think it does remind pumpkin pies and warm muffins. It isn't at all overpowering but makes your room smell really nice and welcoming.
This Spiced pumpkin fragrance is available as a wax tart and reed diffuser as far as I can see they seem to be out of stock but that may just be the website. This warm cosy fragrance captures the essence of a comforting welcoming home in my opinion.
I have not had this for very long but so far I am very pleased with the job of freshening my kitchen. This room is a large eating in kitchen so it has quite a large area to freshen and I have had the door open and the windows during the day and even as I sit now across the room I can smells the sweet scent wafting over.
I am impressed with the smell and its ability to freshen the room and smell as though I have been a Domestic Goddess cooking pumpkin pies in my kitchen instead of sitting with my laptop writing reviews! I would thoroughly recommend these reed diffusers from Yankee candle. The scents are all quite different and all smell pleasant and natural as opposed to synthetic and unpleasant.
