Sicilian Lemon Wax Tart
Another in the brand new Spring/Summer 2012 range of Yankee Candle fragrances, Sicilian Lemon is a new release which has recently been launched and has started to make an appearance both online and from high street Yankee stockists. I bought mine a few days ago after being impressed with 3 of the other new fragrances and expected this one to live up to my hopes of being a zesty, fresh fragrance that Yankee are usually so good at producing. Deciding to have my wax tart melting in my kitchen to allow the fragrance to work its way round my home I unwrapped it from its plastic confines, placed it into the well of my tart burner, lit a tea light and waited...
Wax tarts are, as many readers will know already, a flat piece of fragranced wax. They have no wicks and aren't burnt like normal candles, instead they are melted on a tart burner from the heat of a tea light and contain around 8 hours of fragrance. They're often the strongest smelling products that Yankee produce and are a cheap and cheerful way of fragrancing a home with literally hundreds of scents being available to buy. Generally split into categories including "Fresh", "Fruity" and "Floral" there should be something to suit anybody looking for a fragrance to have in their home and over the years I've become a big fan of the products on offer. Wax tarts are one of the cheapest ways to experience a Yankee fragrance and tend to cost around £1.20 these days although some retailers will offer some at a reduced price when they're promoted as a selected 'fragrance of the month' or out of season for the Christmas-named ones. The Sicilian Lemon wax tart cost me £1.20 and after a few minutes of gently melting I began to detect the unmistakeable aroma of freshly squeezed lemons and I knew it was going to be a fragrance that I liked.
Yankee have used Lemon in other fragrances in the past and tend to get it just right whenever they use it on its own, as you would imagine it's a fresh, clean scent which I find to be rather uplifting and Sicilian Lemon is a fine addition to the Yankee range. Not too dissimilar to Sparkling Lemon (an older fragrance and now being retired in favour of this one) this is a bright, zesty fragrance full of citrusy highlights and whilst it probably lacks the initial fizziness that its predecessor had its still one that appealed to me and reminded me of the Sherbet Lemon sweeties I had as a child. It's not a harsh Lemon smell that you might associate with kitchen or bathroom cleaners, here it's presented as a slightly sweet and invigorating aroma which is packed with zing and zest and melting mine in my kitchen not only freshened and fragranced the air in there but due to it's strength it also worked its way into my hallway and was noticeable around my home.
All of the 2012 releases up to now have been big hits with me and Sicilian Lemon is yet another fine example of how good Yankee can be in replicating fruity aromas, these are generally my favourites out of all the fragrances that Yankee produce and I would have no hesitation in buying this one again and indeed have already made a repeat order of this and a couple of the other new releases so I can have them in my home again. I do think that this is a fragrance that would suit a kitchen or a bathroom although as a daytime scent I can see how it would work in a living room or conservatory and for me it's an ideal fragrance for this time of the year now that the days are lighter for longer.
I don't think it has the same longevity as some of the deeper fragrances that Yankee produce though and the scent from my wax tart had all but gone after 6 hours or so, I used 2 tea lights on mine before it started to lose its strength and a third tea light managed to squeeze every last bit of fragrance out of mine. I'd still recommend this one though as I do think it still works out as good value for money when you consider how much they cost but it isn't one of the most long-lasting fragrances available so worth mentioning here if you're expecting this one to last more than 8 hours.
Overall Sicilian Lemon lived up to my expectations although admittedly I was a little disappointed not to get the full 8 hours worth of fragrance from mine, this wouldn't be enough of a reason for me not to buy it again though as I loved the fragrance it produced and I do think it's perfect for this time of the year. Four stars as a rating from me, it would have been five but I'm deducting a star because of its longevity, definitely recommended though, thanks for reading my review.
