Advantages More natural smell, looks quite attractive, lasts a long time

Disadvantages Could be easily knocked over and spill

I do really like my house to smell nice and with four cats who seem to prefer the kitty litter to outside and also our two grown up sons who returned to live with us for the last six months this has become rather a challenge. I love Yankee candles but they are rather expensive and so I have to wait for presents to get these usually. However in our local bargain store where they sell end of lines and out of date products I saw these Yankee Candle Reed Diffusers for £7 each. They are the authentic item but the older model. The jar is a plainer older style but I was thrilled to bits to find these and bought two. One flavor was this one, ‘Sun and Sea' and the other was ‘Lilac Blossoms’ which I shall be reviewing at a later date.

The ‘Sun and Sand’ scented one I put in the bedroom that was recently vacated by my son who is spending a year with his father in Australia. The room was less than fragrant when he left and I spent quite a few days washing everything including all the clothes he left behind ready for packing them away. This did improve the odor but there was still a ‘boy’ smell as my daughter would say and so I wanted something fresh for this room. I smelled both the oils that I had bought and decided that the ‘Sun and Sand’ one would do the trick in there.

The kit comes in a cardboard outer with plastic inner package. You get a decorative glass bottle filled with fragranced oil sealed with a lid, ten wooden sticks or ‘reeds’ and a silver lid with a hole for use with the reeds to allow the fragrance to permeate the air in the room.

The directions for use are pretty obvious. You take off the black lid and put on the loose silver cap and poke the reeds into the bottle through this silver lid with the hole. Keep the whole thing upright and put it somewhere where it won’t get knocked over by pets, children or anything else. Allow 24 hours for the fragrance to reach full levels but you can hurry it along by turning the reeds upside down so the wet part is up. You can do this at any time to refresh the scent if you feel it needs it.

I followed this complicated process and put the bottle on a shelf above the dresser in the bedroom. This was two days ago so I felt that gave it a good chance to get going. I can hear you asking ; Does it still smell like a boy’s room or can you imagine that you are walking into a room of fresh ‘sun and sand’?

Well it certainly smells better. It would help if I could open the door to let the air circulate but the cats keep on going in there and lying on the washed bedding and clothes so I have to keep it shut. I do open the window when it is a nice day and I remember but not every day. It does smell a lot sweeter. There is a subtle fragrance of sweet orange blossom. My husband thinks it smells of rose but it is orange blossom definitely.

I had a look on the Yankee candle website to see what the scent is made up of and according to the website the ‘Sun and Sand’ fragrance is:
“A tropical beach breeze of sweet orange flower, lemony citrus, fresh lavender and powdery musk.
