Advantages Advantages For me it cleared my skin, minimised bloating and my periods were light.

Disadvantages Disadvantages There are many concerns over this pill and the Lawsuits in the US create a worrying picture.

About Contraceptive Pills (a bit of background information) In 1961 in the United Kingdom the contraceptive pill was introduced (for married women only). The pill has been a controversial method of birth control but according to ‘NetDoctor’ there are 3.5 million women in the UK using it. The contraceptive pill contains hormones that suppress ovulation and the result is that no egg is released and therefore no pregnancy occurs. For many women the purpose behind them taking the contraceptive pill is to prevent pregnancy. However there are other reasons for taking the pill, for example: relieving ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages CAN HAVE SOME SLIGHT SIDE AFFECTS

I had never heard of Yasmin until I dropped by my doctors to tell him I needed a new pill yet again! The background on this was that I used to take Dianette the contraceptive pill that also helps prevent acne but as this is one of the most strongest pills on the market you are advised not to take for a long period of time so after 5 year I swapped to the dreaded Microgen which was really just your average pill I didn't have any babies but I got a lot of spots which was the 2nd worse thing to babies in my mind. So I went back on to Dianette and this is when the problems began I had a lot of bad ... more

Yasmin is a combined oral contraceptive. It contains drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. Drosperinone is a fairly new progestogen, and is the closest to the natural female progesterone hormone. It also functions as an anti-androgen and when combined with ethinyl estradiol (the "oestrogen" component), it can be highly effective as an acne and hirsuitism treatment without the harsher side effects of other drugs. Yasmin contains Ethinylestradiol 30 micrograms plus drospirenone 3 mg. It is a monophasic pill - 1 pill per day for 21 days followed by a pill-free interval of 7 days, where a period ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Very few side effects

Disadvantages Disadvantages May have difficulty getting doctor to agree to prescribing it

I have been prescribed many different brands of contraceptive pill over the years. I can't remember which the one I first had was but it was withdrawn as there was a scare related to it. Then after a few different changes I was put on Cilest - this was fine for a few months but then I developed extremely bad PMT and depression. It got so bad I had thoughts of suicide and I eventually realised after reading an article in a magazine that it may be related to my pill and went to my doctor to ask for it to be changed. I had terrible trouble getting them to change it but eventually I managed to ... more

Advantages Advantages Lighter/regular periods, no pregnancy, no side effects.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be difficult to remember to take it, other than that no problems.

I've been on the Yasmin pill for nearly a year now, and was prescribed it following an appointment with my doctor when I explained how irregular and painful my periods were. On hearing this, she prescribed me with the pill Yasmin and explained that I may experience some problems, but it was to be expected. If they got worse, then I would end up having to go back to change to another pill. I never had to do that, even when I started it up for the first time I experienced no side effects. The only problems I had with headaches were caused by other factors. This is the first and only pill that I ... more
