-----ONE FOR THE WOMEN-----

Advantages: FREE ON PRESCRIPTION, 99% PROTECTION AGAINST PREGNANCY
Disadvantages: CAN HAVE SOME SLIGHT SIDE AFFECTS

I had never heard of Yasmin until I dropped by my doctors to tell him I needed a new pill yet again! The background on this was that I used to take Dianette the contraceptive pill that also helps prevent acne but as this is one of the most strongest pills on the market you are advised not to take for a long period of time so after 5 year I swapped to the dreaded Microgen which was really just your average pill I didn't have any babies but I got a ...

WHAT DOES YASMIN LOOK LIKE?
The box Yasmin comes in is about the size of a 10 pack of cigarettes maybe a little bit longer it is yellow and orange with a big Y on and a lady jumping. The box can easily be slipped into your handbag or bedside cabinet. There are usually three packs in the box enough for a 3-month supply. Inside you also get a long white plastic holder for your singular packet of pills. The holder has a large red ... more

Strength

Yasmin - don't give it up too soon!

Advantages: great cycle control, clearer skin, stable moods, weight loss, effective contraception
Disadvantages: slight nausea and tender breasts for 2 months, acne increases at first.

Yasmin is a combined oral contraceptive. It contains drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol. Drosperinone is a fairly new progestogen, and is the closest to the natural female progesterone hormone. It also functions as an anti-androgen and when combined with ethinyl estradiol (the "oestrogen" component), it can be highly effective as an acne and hirsuitism treatment without the harsher side effects of other drugs. Yasmin contains Ethinylestradiol 30 ...
...period-style bleed can take place. Yasmin can be used continuously in different regimens (3-6 months) as treatment for PMT, PCOS, endometriosis and other gynaecological issues. I use Yasmin as contraception and also because I have had PCOS in the past (and tend to be susceptible to androgenic side effects such as acne and weight gain). This is the second time I have been on Yasmin. The first time I was very ill with depression as a result of PCOS ...

Yasmin has changed my life for the better!

Advantages: Very few side effects
Disadvantages: May have difficulty getting doctor to agree to prescribing it

...a few different publications. Yasmin is a combined pill made by a company called Schering Health Care, it was released in 2002 and on its release made claims that it gives fewer side effects than other combined pills available. After searching this is an excerpt from a news report I found published the week of its release. "A new contraceptive Pill which does not cause weight gain will be introduced in the UK this week. Yasmin has fewer side effects ...
...study found that women taking Yasmin even lost weight in the first year of using it. Schering also claims it improves skin and hair condition and relieves the bloating associated with other oral contraceptives, which often encourages women to abandon taking it. The new Pill contains the same low-dose of oestrogen, but its other pharmacological properties help counteract fluid retention by balancing oestrogen in the body. The Pill, taken by 3.5 million ...

Yasmin Success

Advantages: Lighter/regular periods, no pregnancy, no side effects.
Disadvantages: Can be difficult to remember to take it, other than that no problems.

I've been on the Yasmin pill for nearly a year now, and was prescribed it following an appointment with my doctor when I explained how irregular and painful my periods were. On hearing this, she prescribed me with the pill Yasmin and explained that I may experience some problems, but it was to be expected. If they got worse, then I would end up having to go back to change to another pill. I never had to do that, even when I started it up for the ...
...I had with headaches were caused by other factors. This is the first and only pill that I have personally tried, and I was (still am) surprised by the effectiveness. I soon discovered that the little acne that still existed on my body soon went away better than when I tried using other acne treatments, and that my skin in general became a lot smoother and clearer. I'm really, really happy about that particular aspect, as I used to have excema and ...

Not for eczema sufferers

Advantages: No mood swings!
Disadvantages: Eczema, migraine, weight gain

I switched to Yasmin from the mini-pill Cerazette because I couldn't cope with the bleeds every 14 days and terrible mood swings. I had initially been given Cerazette because I have a migraine history and the progesterone only mini-pills don't aggravate the problem, however due to the reasons mentioned above, I had to give up on it, so my doctor suggested Yasmin as the oestrogene is low-dose, so the hope was it would give me contraceptive cover, ...
...of me starting to take Yasmin - at first I put it down to the stress of wedding preparations but when it continued, I started working things out and realised that it tied in with the new contraceptive. Instead of starting to clear as my body got used to it, it actually got worse as time went on until I realised that I had to do something about it, hence my decision to switch - I have now just started Microgynon and await developments! Another side ...

great pill for those not prone to acne...

Advantages: Minimal Weight Gain, Larger Breasts, No Mood Swings
Disadvantages: Acne

...The only drawback from Yasmin was the acne breakouts. I loved this pill and the fact that it made me slightly more curvacious, but not too heavy. I had acne breakouts with all the other pills also except for Dianette, however it made me feel suicidal, which was awful considering I was quite a happy, bubbly person at the time I began taking it. I broke out mostly around my chin, sometimes on my cheeks, and occasionally on my forehead. It wasn't unbelievably ...
...been for this, I would still be taking Yasmin. All in all, out of all the pills i've had so far Cerazette, Dianette, Microgynon 30...Yasmin has been the best, however, I would not recommend it to those of you who are acne prone before taking it, however, it can clear up skin for some people, unfortunately I didn't get this end of it. ...

Go for Cilest!

Advantages: Pretty much everything
Disadvantages: Remembering to take it.

I have been on Cilest for about three years now and have had no problems with it at all as i have experienced no side effects. Before Cilest i tried two other contraceptive pills (microgynon 30 & Yasmin) both of which caused sickness. If you suffer from bad side effects from your current contraceptive pill then try Cilest as it lower levels of progestogen and oestrogen which help to ease unwanted side effects. Being on Cilest has given me regular periods and is always the same each month without fail. Another bonus is that i dont get horrible period pain like i used to when i was younger. Cilest has also always kept me protected even through risky situations! I would 100% recommend using Cilest, with out a doubt! ...

Dianette....or Dianot?

Advantages: Contraceptive cover
Disadvantages: pain, depression, tender breasts, headaches, not safe to be on for too long

break. Advantages: * Works as a contraceptive * Works as an acne treatment Disadvantages: * Didn't do anything for my acne * My ovaries felt like shards of glass were being pushed through them on the 7-day break in particular. * Not safe for long-term use. * Tends to cause depression (possibly the higher oestrogen, but also the progestogen type) * Ridiculous weight gain in spite of diet and exercise. * Headaches and low moods. * I felt irritable all the time and constantly cried. * Very tender breasts - probably the higher oestrogen. I would not write this pill off completely. I know of some great success stories from other acne and PCOS sufferers. Unfortunately not me though! Nowadays there are safer pills available that will help acne and work as a contraceptive, such as Yasmin, Marvelon, Cilest, Mercilon ...

Review of Dianette Contraceptive Pill

Amazing for your skin..........but that's about all!!!

Advantages: Clearer/ less oily skin within weeks; no pregnancy; lighter/ shorter periods
Disadvantages: Migraine/ headaches (daily); weight gain; mood swings; anxiety;

I'm going to keep this brief... I started taking Dianette about 3-4 months ago as i was suffering regular break-outs due to my oily skin (i was previously taking micogynon). After the first month you could already see the improvement in my skin. But 3-4 months on although my skin has cleared up completely, i am experiencing severe headaches, mood swings, periods of extreme anxiety, pain during sex, and i have also gone up a dress size (& bra size) I have never suffered from headaches before but now i have at least one a day and i would say about 2 severe migraine a week! Ouch!!! So i can only assume that this is down to Dianette. I have heard about a new pill called Yasmin, which is supposed to be the best on the market for acne/ contraception. I will definately be switching! ...
